You guys pretty set on picking a D man? Nobody high on Tkachuk? - RonPielep
Organizational need. Hutton was unexpected, and Subban has the name factor, but outside of that we are looking at mid to bottom pairing D potential in the chute. Haven't had a top D prospect since Bourdon |

The organization also has little to no offensive prospects as well. Boeser has had a great season but still is not what I would consider a high end prospect at this point. McCann and Virtanen have some potential but IMO still project to be complementary pieces in the top 6.
I still think the greatest need is guys who can score and create. |

I agree that the need for scoring is high, but at least there is some youth in the system that have skill.
If Tkachuk was considered better long term than the D prospects, I would be ok with him being taken (and really I am ok with any prospect taken in the top 6, we are in a good spot). I just haven't seen that he was worth it in relation to the Serg/Chych/Jules etc. that they were fairly equal level prospects |

Might be worth trading down too if something is available with another team. There are other top D prospects spread around the top 0-40 picks who could help bulk up the depth. |

Yeah I am not sure who JB is high on, but if they are sitting 4th and dont want Tkachuk I would move down somewhere in the top 8-10 to pick up another top 35 pick.
That being said I wouldnt be surprised if he takes Tkachuk and has his eye on a defenseman in that top 40 range like you say |

Work from the Goalie out. Better passes , harder shots and rebounds from the back end is where you start to improve your scoring |

I agree with both White Lie and Vantel ... Just wait for JB with 4/5 pick in draft NOT pick one of the D ... the 1040 crowd will go nuts ... and I would have no problem ... none of the top D prospects are generational talents .... you could pick up the same player in 2nd/3rd rd if your scouts have done their job, and with JB supervising I feel better about that than any other time in Canucks history ... |

In a woeful D Edler is still the best we have.
Either Burrows or Hamhuis writing will be on the wall on the 30 th . If we are drafting a D then absolutely no need for Hamhuis. If drafting a forward , then absolutely no need for Burrows. - VANTEL
Good points.
I'm hoping for a high pick (forward) and expect Hamhuis to be resigned.
Burrows to be bought out i think. |

Fair enough, I just don't see the same gap between the top 3 D and the next 4-5 when we select in the 2nd. I think the top 5-6 forwards and a forward available at 33 is a huge jump.
Forwards taken in the top 5 often end up being elite, Defense much less.
Between 2002 and 2011 the D in the top 5:
Whitney, Bouwmeester, Pitkanen, Barker, J Johnson, E Johnson, Hickey, Alzner, Schenn, Pietrangelo, Doughty, Bogosian, Hedman, Gudbranson, Larsson.
3 out of 15 elite IMO
Forwards :
Nash, Staal, Horten, Zherdev, Vanek, Ovechkin, Malkin, Ladd, Wheeler, Crosby, Ryan, Pouliot, Staal, Toews, Backstrom, Kessel, Kane, JVR, Turris, Stamkos, Tavares, Duchene, Kane, Hall, Seguin, Johansen, Niederreiter, Nuge, landeskog, Huberdeau, Strome.
17 out of 31 elite IMO.

I think I did some similar research a while back, I agree you can get a really good forward in the top 5, while defense is still more about development beyond the draft. That's why I feel like any prospect they get this year will be a good piece, but the attention has been all about defense so I have got caught up in it quite a bit more |

RFAs
Sven [email protected] per
Etem [email protected] per
Granlund [email protected]
Vey not signed
Pedan 1 @.750 K
Zalewski 1 @.675 ( 2 way)
Grenier traded
Bloomstrand 2 way deal
UFAs
All let go from Canucks
UFA pick ups

Martin 4 yrs @ 3 per
Trades
I expect a Tanev to WPG trade
Buyouts
Burrows
Waived
Higgins - VANTEL
I like it.
I reckon Sven will get a bit more salary, but overall it's a nice plan.
Who do we pick up from Winnipeg?
They have a lot of salary committed to their backend already, and also have Trouba to resign. They lack depth up front more than anything imo.
They also have a lot of cap space.
Burrows and Tanev for picks and salary dump?
