If you have that type of jam I say they trade a few guys and that pick for that defenseman. If you get a lot of those free agent guys you can do that. Big Ifs, though.

I was too lazy to look at the Cap situation of the 8 teams mentioned so that needs to be considered...but I think the big take-away is that it will be a heated battle to secure him going forward.

That's the (multi)million dollar question. If Anaheim is going to lose one do you have enough for either Lindholm or Fowler? Are they top 2 or really good top 4?

For a bonafide top 2 guy I'm assuming you're giving up at least 2 1st round picks, a roster player, and a pretty good prospect. At least. "It's an overpayment" and it is, but top 2 guys are really hard to come by. I'm talking like a Subban or a Karlsson. But if we have the roster that you put together it's a roster that can do really well especially with all of the young contracts. In this terrible division there's no reason in a year or two they couldn't win the division and get home ice for a while.
