Two things Vancouver has to be leery of are travel and taxes. Benning is not going to wait until year four like other GMs . I think if Demko hasn't signed by draft then Canucks may look at options. They are offering him a professional contract for next year, if he refuses then all bets are off.
Not 1040 info, and not panicking, just smart buisiness. - VANTEL
If he isnt signed by the draft he should be traded for the top possible pick or a legit d prospect. |

Did anyone find out why Linden held his press meeting in the hallway and didn't join Benning and Dejardins at the table? - VANTEL

Burrows is a good hockey player winding down his career. He's not on my radar for role model though and this is where I disagree with people.
His history about how he worked hard, followed his dream and beat the odds is nice. Not having him in the locker room doesn't change the inspirational story. The story isnt worth extra millions either. Seems our better vets get loads of scrutiny for not earning their pay checks regardless of earlier home discounts that most of the core did anyways. - boonerbuck
If he's not in the locker room it's just a story. Watching the movie Rudy would likely have more impact on the young guys than hearing Stan Smyl tell them about how some old guy made it all the way from the ECHL once. But having him there and seeing how he prepares for games, how he practices, etc., that might make a positive impression.
No, the sentiment is not a reason to keep Burrows and when the team is as bad as they were this year, I'm in favor of upgrading everybody. But if the UFA's or callups available to them end up being merely a lateral move, then his back story could be a difference maker in the decision to keep him.
Personally, I think he's gone before the end of July. Too many other guys can't be moved or won't be moved and, if you need to get better, you need the open roster spots to allow for change.

Linden's had plenty of media training and instruction on how to carefully build image through PR. No doubt a calculated move to seem casual, approachable and....trustworthy. |

This is why people like him. He is a heart and soul team guy. I am not advocating him to return but I would not be upset if he did. |

Burrows is known for good reason to be one of...if not the least classiest guy in the league.... unless we have another Burrows in the system???? - boonerbuck
For our team and on the Canucks, IMO he conducts himself well. On the ice is a different story for sure. |

Was he as forceful as Jordan Schroeder? They've already got Baertschi for their top six so forget the small guys altogether. In my opinion those are wasted picks for the Canucks who'd be better to try for a home run on a higher-risk power forward than take an undersized player who will just end up being another career AHL'er. - YeOldTimer
No no, game two of the WHL playoffs. For sure that is the case, Philips may end being a Tyler Johnson which would be a steal. Smaller guys are making it as the rules change and contact goes down |

There are still few and far between small guys around the league that are "making it". It's got a lot less to do with size then it does with skill level, hockey IQ and heart. |

That's fair but not many guys of gallager and TJ's size played in the NHL in the 90's Ronning was one of the few. I think it's more common now, which is what I was trying to point out, because there's no more clutch and grab. |

Yeah you are probably right in that sense. The game has changed to allow a smaller player to excel more often. Still only a handful of players are 5'10" and smaller that do well in the nhl. |

Definitely. I think there will be more though as the league continues to get faster, but at the end of the day you've got to be that much better. |

I'd be interested to hear people's picks for the 1st round.
Without doing any research into season series, my gut tells me:
Dallas over Minny. Too much firepower on Dallas and i read that Parise is injured.
Stl over Chicago. i think it's st louis' year. dark horse pick.
Ana over Nsh. my heart says Nashville and i hate the ducks, but they seem to be peaking at the right time.
LAK over SJ. Quick is good, SJ goaltending is suspect.
Wash over Philly. I think Washington will go to s/c finals this year.
Pitts over NYR. Again, Pitts seems to be peaking at teh right time.
FLA over NYI. emotional choice.
Det over TBL. injuries too much for tampa to overcome.

I'd agree on all but I think TB beats Det in 6. Then gets swept in round 2.

I agree with most but I am saying Anaheim won't get past Nashville. |

Really? Anaheim started worse then Columbus and ended up in first and columbus ended up just as bad as Van. |

Yeah I think Andersen is going to $hit the bed in net and Rinne is going to shine. The scoring will be low but the top 2 lines on Anaheim will be stymied. Plus f@ck Kesler. |
