I agree with you, also if your putting him on the 4th becomes a massive waste, what you could get for him in a trade would be greatly more valuable then having him on the 4th - hubie

I try to be optimistic. I say to myself, if I have to pay taxes, its the result of making money. If you didn't have to pay taxes, it would be because you were broke.
So it isn't the paying part that bothers me.
Holy poop this crap is next to impossible to figure out. I have been working on this for almost 3.5 hours today!! |

Not using something like Turbo tax? Have to pay $70 or so for it, but makes life easy - my taxes aren't simple and takes about an hour |

I really liked when we traded for Larsson, I'm glad he's working out, for a while a lot of people want to ship him out of here for a bag of pucks. There is a place for guys like him in this league, pesky, annoying, strong defensive but can still make a play and chip the puck in the net every few games. He may never be top 6, but he may be our version of Brad Marchand in a few years. |

If he can manage to put a consistent season together, we'll stop trying to force him out of town. Same with the Latvian.
Problem with Z, no one knows what his role is. Even him. Same poop happened with Fasching. |

Best case scenario he plays on the 3rd line as a checking winger/center who can score 10-15 goals and will also help defensively. The 3rd line was clicking at the end of the year which contributed to him not being there. If that line doesn't keep rolling like they were I could see him going there.
Foligno-Larsson-Girgensons is a decent checking line and if they all play to their highs offensively (a major stretch to say they all will, but if) they could pot 30-45 goals. Fasching, Bailey, or others could also contribute on that line.
My thing is, what would you get for him if we tried to trade him? He's a former 1st round pick, has scored 15 goals and 30 points in a year, and has been decent defensively save last year. Would we get a 2nd? A 3rd? I'd keep him even on the 4th line for anything less than that. That's just me. 4th liners can be valuable, I look at Boston's from their cup, as long as they aren't too expensive. Again, if we can get a good haul I'm all for trading him, I just wonder what that haul would be. |

He can't be top 6, I know that. But is he good enough offensively to be on a scoring 3rd line? Is he good enough defensively or strong enough on the puck to be on a checking line? I like him but I just don't know that he's good enough at any one thing. He tries real hard and he'd be a better 4th liner than we've had in the past (Peters, Ellis, etc) but is he better than what we have? |

That's really all that anyone really cares about around here.
Honestly he should probably be playing in Gio's spot. Except Gio does it as or more effectively. |

Exactly. If Girgensons gets more offensively smart or defensively responsible and Gio slows down then stick him there. However, I actually think that Ennis would play that role better (not a popular opinion). Gionta has speed, passing, forecheck, and defensive positioning. Ennis has the first two, Girgs has the second two. I fell Ennis' offense is better than Girgs defense and him playing with Larsson and Foligno could help them keep their scoring up. |

Interesting thought.. just can't see Ennis as an energy guy. Girgs is more built for the energy role. I think this summer is really going to define what the organization thinks of him. If he's a trade chip, so be it. If he's here for the start of the season, you better know that all parties agree on his role, what he needs to work on and how exactly he's going to become useful to the organization. Because, he really wasn't anything more than an auxiliary player this past season. Just another factor of the unknown for this summer. I'm interested in reading the offseason notes related to him. |

I don't want the 3rd to be an energy line and I'm not sure I'd currently call it that. It's more of a scoring line that can also play defense. My energy and puck possession line would be the 4th in a perfect scenario. That would be where I'd have players like D-Lo, Girgs, and COR who can do decent enough offensively that they aren't stuck in their end, can be hard on the puck, and wear down the other team.
The 3rd line (82-22-63 in this scenario) would be expected to provide decent secondary scoring without being a liability defensively. Foligno can obviously hit and wear down people (although, imo, rarely ever does this) but that would be secondary to scoring.
That's just how I'd build the team. If ennis stays for the duration of his contract that's where I'd see him fitting long term unless he goes back to the ~ .61 ppg player he was before this year |
