My wife didn't like Pommer either, and it's not any easier to change her mind. But she hates Trump.

The NHL strikes again
- SABRES 89

I dont understand the logic at all. That's all I got as an argument.
I don't live anywhere any of the games, and I already paid the NHL.
Why do I also have to pay a cable company?
I guess when a Lawyer runs the NHL…..

Hasek was the best player in the world when he played. There is no question about it.

Maybe because he was a goaltender makes it seem different than a skater, but he was.

- rmiethaner

I'm not denying that he was one of the best, maybe even the best player for a while, but he's the only one our 46 year history that you can say that about, and we were really lucky that he landed in our lap, and that's kind of sad. Even if he was truly the best player in the world when he played for us, his talents were still wasted, zero cups.

The point was, people from Buffalo look at guys like Pommer as being stars because people from Buffalo aren't used to what real stars look like. You can give the superstar award to one guy, that's it between the Bills and the Sabres, and that really sucks.

All 3 playoff games blacked out for me here in California. Game Center subscriber.
Of course, I pirated the 2 early games, bouncing around from link to link.
Had a good youtube feed for the hawks game until it got shut down.
Not exactly sure how alienating your fans benefits the league.
I understand exclusive broadcast rights puts $$$ in the owners pockets, but i would think as an owner, your first priority would be your fans. Mostly because you're already filthy rich to begin with.

I don't think Pommenville was a star by any means. He was a very acceptable 2nd line winger forced in to first line duty (and captainship) because we had a cheapskate owner.
Pretty dark days for the Sabres.

Yeah, Hasek was a star, but lets face it, we've never had any Gretzky's, Lemieux, Orr, Howe, Hull, Messier, Crosby, etc.. There's never been a time in our history (with the exception of Hasek who's good years were wasted on us) where we could say, "This guy is the best hockey player in the world right now."
- sskkoo1

I would say the back to back Hart, Vezina and Pearson(now Lindsay) awards would beg to differ. With the exception of maybe Patrick Roy I would say Hasek is the best goalie ever. He almost single handedly won the Cup for us. Those teams were dogpoop without him.

I really am not sure how this is still perpetuated. In the last 4 or 5 years of his ownership we were a cap team.

How old are you guys, 15? Gilbert Perreault was an absolute star, first ballot hall of famer.

I understand what you are saying, and I agree. Championships mean everything and us Buffalonians do tend to think guys playing here are stars when they really are not.

But now that you brought the Bills into this, lol, Bruce Smith (all time sack leader), Thurman Thomas (an NFL MVP), and Jim Kelly (I never did like him), were not superstars? lol.

Not arguing, but sometimes you just have to enjoy what you have. Sure the ultimate goal has never been reached and that sucks as it is most important, but I can at least appreciate some great accomplishments.

The 4 Super Bowl loses I watched hurt more then the No Goal IMO. First Super Bowl lose is burned into my brain.

I'm willing to stipulate that we haven't had anyone in the last 20ish years, but to say Mogilny, Lafontaine, Hasek, Perreault, Housley, hell even Hawerchuk, Andreychuk and Barrasso were stars if only for a few years each.

Agreed for the most part. The first two Bowl loses sucked the most, after that, it became a joke.

The Bills teams just felt like they should have won more than the '99 Sabres.

It was Regier and Galissano for sure but I also play Drury for being a Brute'. Regier should have realized Briere was the smart buy and allocated his resources to find a way to pay him instead of thinking Drury wouldn't run off to gotham city and stab us in the back. That forced him to over spend on Vanek and rely on him and Pommer to replace two franchise centers.

Yeah, I don't see that as being a cheapskate as much as totally, utterly mishandling the situation.
