I wonder what Patrick Elias would cost on a 1 year deal. Always a solid 2 way guy. Could he be a nice 3rd line center with two younger wings like Laughton and Leier?
I am not a fan of ladd.
The only big money I would want to spend is for Stamkos.
I don't want 2nd teir guys like Lucic, Okposo or Eriksson. - J35Bacher
I'd look at Erikason. His 30 goals are intriguing. If we wanted to get tougher then Lucic or Okposo would be the route. Not sure which of those two I'd prefer over the other. Prob Okposo. |

I actually like the current 4 centers of the Flyers. Cousins is growing on me he has a Keith Jones (yes I know he was a wing) vibe to me which is a great person to have on the roster. I loved how after each penalty he drew last night he had a grin on his face like HA GOTCHA! If they can get two wings that are more of a threat than Read, Laughton, current Jake, Gagner I think we could see something really special.
If we move one of Read/Laughts to line 4 I'd be ok with that next year. But we need 2 wings to really fix the scoring woes this team falls into. - dragonoffrost
See I would almost prefer Cousins as my 4th line center. |

I am just not wow'd by any of those guys to give a 5 or more cap hit.
I am curious to see if any RFA's don't get QO's like how we got Del Zotto.
Kassian would interest me.
It would be great if the Flyers could land Caggiula. He could be an impact 3rd liner with his speed. |

Yeah I'm not wowed either, but interested in exploring I guess. Okposo and Lucic prob will get longer deals so I'd lean towards Eriksson at a 3 year deal possibly. Kassian would be an interesting option for bottom 6. Same could be said for Matt Martin who's a FA. Two RFAs that are a reach and wishful thinking are Mike Hoffman from OTT and Schwartz from STL. Both can score and good ages that mix well with our core. I really hope we somehow can land Caggiula... I know we were mentioned to be in the mix and I'm hoping Haks can convince him. But if you were a player on verge of turning pro, would you want to go right to a guy who recruited you and coached you 3 years or see how you fit in a different system/scheme? |

Reallllly would love to be able to draft Tufte, but that doesnt seem like it will happen. Max Jones would also be a good pick if available. |

I think it depends. He could possibly slide right onto the roster I believe on the 3rd line. He has great speed and skills with the puck.
But he could choose to try and make a roster else where. Depends on what he wants. |

Wouldnt mind Lucic as I think he adds some toughness and nastiness to the team.
Overall not happy with a loss but lets be honest , the Caps are the best team in the league for a reason. They showed it last night and I know it's easy for this place to blame the Flyers for everything but it was as much the Caps execution as it was anything else.
Coots going down is a huge loss. Need the next player to line up and figure out a way to contribute.
One thing I have liked about Hak with his leadership of the team is they dont seem to drop into major funks over the 2 half of the season. let game 1 go and get ready for tomorrow. |

Yeah that's what I mean. He could slide right with us and he said he'd make his decision after a month I believe. Which I read would allow other teams to get into the mix for him? I think the initial teams were a Flyers, Oilers, Canucks, Sabers and Sens. But then after he released his timing to decide, Blackhawks entered the mix
I know he did a camp in Buffalo. Not sure of the other connections With the other teams. Not as clear as Flyers and Buff. |

I think the Flyers will be right around where Jones is expected to go. Guys that will be around then are probably Logan Brown, Keiffer Bellows, Max Jones, Riley Tufte,
I would lean towards Jones, but I like guys that bring a little edge to their game. I think it is easier to tone a guy down a little then try to get a guy to rev it up. He has size. But I think after the top of the draft, their isn't a huge drop off. More of just a "what do you prefer". |

Yea I think Jones has that nasty edge to his game, but also has a bunch of other tools. Could develop into a Corey Perry style (not comparing the two at all) where he has skill and edge to his game.
Tufte just has a lot of skill size and skating. I think of Jeff Carter when watching him play. |

It was always gonna be an uphill battle with Coots without him it's gonna be even harder. Im hoping they have some life to them and can at least make the Caps regret they had to play the Flyers in the 1st round, take the body and smash them, target Ovie even more.
I love Simmer, but damn man you're the team's leading scorer you can't get into it right there. Still thought the evening up of the calls was BS but the refs weren't going to give them a PP that late in the Caps building. You lost this with your special teams play.
Mason was awesome no surprise there to me, he's gonna need to channel his inner Roy/Parent for the Flyers to have any shot at winning this. |

Also the Flyers made Holtby's night waaay too easy. Put some bodies in front of the man or he's going to make the save. |

Agreed. He's got skill and size, but he's just a scumbag both on and off the ice. |

Agreed, got real annoyed watching them shoot it right at his chest. He put himself in good positions but pick a corner or go low, every wrister was right in his bread basket. |

Just as bad as Vorachek's turnover was Ghosts brain freeze of skating off after he saw Vorachek fall. Ghost definetly doesn't get the time and space out there with the Capitals. Hopefully he can adapt as we need his skill level. |

Not much else they can do, really. Trading punches w/ the Caps will get em in a lot more trouble, especially now that Coots is out. |

I don't know why people are upset. we all know the shortcomings of the team....that they need another player for the top 6 (Gagner/Raffl/etc are not top 6 to me). we all know the bottom 6 needs upgrading whether its kids growing (Cousins/Laughton) or bringing in new players (for Read, Gagner, VV). we all know the defense needs upgrading. Personally this team needs size with skill and some speed.
we all knew this was a borderline playoff team and most didn't expect them to get in. I want to win a cup BAD but I am also very realistic and I'm happy with the steps the organization is making. this is all gravy to me (or sauce for us Italians ).

meh. they played a decent game, but penalty trouble starting late in the 2nd, and losing couturier did them in, after failing to generate anything on 3 pp's.
gost was jittery. top line pretty invisible. jake has been poor since returning from injury by and large.
just didn't work hard enough in the caps zone. easy night for holtby. he had one difficult save in my opinion. the rest was right into him. didn't make him move, didn't get screens or tips or rebounds, no odd mans...just weak (frank)ing effort offensively.
wasted performance by mason. kinda' like game 7 vs. ny 2 years ago.
so....laughton?
i'm so over streit. - hammarby31
I hope they can move Streit and Read. Move on from Gagner (I want speed and size and he has neither). buy out Umberger if the expansion draft info is true. I want to see the 4th line upgraded. they work hard and do a good job but honestly they really don't add enough offense.
I like Cousins a lot. is he a 4th liner tho? I look at his progress as a player and can't help but think maybe Laughton should have been in the AHL. I know one is a 3rd round pick and the other a first rounder but I don't think that should matter in the development of a player. Cousins 2-1/2 yrs in the A has really help him develop into a good role player. |

What fatal acts?
Because he was defending on the play and the puck went over the boards? That was an unlucky bounce.
Manning was the least of the problems if a problem at all.
Problems:
-1st PP is not generating enough pressure.
-Didn't get to the net enough or cause traffic 5v5
-Top guys weren't top guys last night. I thought Schenn busted his ass and played with an edge
This team lacks the talent depth that Washington has so they need their top guys to have good games to win. And then role players have to play above themselves to win this series. - J35Bacher
I despise that rule. One of the dumbest in the books. I get a penalty for shooting it into the stands but when you whack a puck out of mid air its not the same thing. Its a rule so its a penalty but its a DUMB ASS rule |

My only issue is this gravy can quickly spoil if they lose out in 4 in a deteriorating series where this first game was their best game. I'm hoping against hope that this isn't true.
Right now it's cheek to curb and heel to ear. I'm hoping the stomping doesn't begin Saturday. |

Even if the Flyers should have still received a PP (which is debatable) why would Simmonds fight Wilson and take himself off the ice for the PP when he knows they desperately need him out there? Down a goal, they are still right in the mix.
I love Simmonds, he's a very good player, and a great teammate, but sometimes he does some things that are really head scratchers.
This was going to be a really hard series to win under optimal conditions, with Couturier out I don't see any way they can win. They were pretty dreadful without him all year, now they have to beat the President Trophy winners 4 out of 6. Not happening.
The more I look at the roster, this team got to the playoffs with smoke and mirrors. (Which bodes well for when Hextall can add to the nucleus). - PLindbergh31
he is an emotional guy and just reacted. not saying it was smart. |
