Very true & the arena would be full as well...so I don't understand why its not done already, its a win/win - Xizord
Honestly, I think the idea is that the league really doesn't care about 'full arenas'. Think about it this way, there are tons of people in Quebec that are already paying to watch hockey on TV, buying merchandise, etc, so they are generating revenue without even having a team in that region. The idea is to try and bring in new regions. Basically, the concept was to create a new revenue source, instead of trying to increase a current revenue source.
I think we would all be surprised at the numbers if you were to see the overall revenue increase of adding a team there with 18k fans nightly versus an entirely new market with 14k a night. You are potentially getting people to pay for stuff they never would have if there was never a team there. I get that you can charge more, etc, for the games, but its not like they aren't selling jerseys and stuff in Quebec currently. Without the two Florida teams, I bet anywhere south of Nashville wouldn't even know what a hockey jersey looks like. |

I've watched the Cats a lot since moving from Tampa due to family illness, they went out of their way to throw bodies which is not they're style at least not like last night and it took them off their game trying to match the Isles. First game and Tampa/Wings had plenty of bodies flying too but it's a chess match start, if they get back to their style they'll do a lot better. They're faster and can swarm in the offensive zone with the best of them no reason to get off what got you there. Yes there's more checking in the playoffs but not if you have to sacrifice your D system.
I loved Potvin as a player but he drives me crazy as an analyst or at times cheerleader. One more Oh my and I might throw something at the TV |

Yeah, it's not like there are successful franchises is cities further south than Nashville like Dallas, Anaheim, or Los Angeles. And I don't see a lot of people saying to move both teams out of Florida. Just the Panthers. |

Was kinda just referring to the south, when you talking about the south in the US, generally means south east, doesn't really include Cali, etc.... |

Perhaps in your mind, though most of the country thinks of places like Texas as the South, and there are lots of teams geographically further south than of Nashville doing well.
Still, given that you were really saying no one would care about hockey in and around Florida if not for the Lightning and Panthers... so? Doesn't look like many care about Panthers hockey there now; and Lighting aren't generally talked about by most of the "we should relocate some teams" crowd. |

Hopefully enough Islander fans will show up tonight so you guys can sell out the building. There's a catch though. You have to hit the goal horn when we score too |

Does that happen in Brooklyn when all the Ranger fans buy tickets in your building?

24 Florida 41 630,746 15,384 90.3
28 NY Islanders 41 558,705 13,626 86.2
That is the rank, total number of home games, overall attendance, average number of attendance, and percent of the building filled.
At least the Islanders can equal Florida in number of home games. |

Just like when we take up a huge portion of MSG when we play the Rangers. I went to last seasons opener against the Rangers at MSG and it was at or close to half islander fans. Not really the best analogy. |

Our arena holds less and charges significantly more with 2000 obstruction seats. Again not the best analogy. Also the transition to Brooklyn hasnt been easy the commute is a little difficult for some fans.
Not trying to pile on here with everyone else but I cant believe how empty that arena has been the last two games. On a friday night game two its pretty crazy not being close to a sell out. These 8:00 starts during the week dont help. Why the NHL would want an eight oclock start on a sunday is beyond me when most people aren't working to begin with? Makes zero sense. I wanted to go to tommorows game but cant bcs by the time i get home ill be destroyed for work on monday. Good game last night looks like iit'll be a long series |

It's ok to shill for your team. But hey, lets not kid ourselves here. It's notorious how Ranger fans take over WHATEVER building you play in, you have no legit argument there. As for the crowd last night, no complaints. If you're stating on empty seats at center ice, again...and its a damn shame, that's CLUB RED where people eat and drink up under the suites..they only take their seats when they take a break from eating and drinking. Looks bad on TV I'll give you that. The only thing I can say about Thursday, and its not a real excuse..it is WHAT it is..There were many other events people may have had tickets to. There were concerts on Thurs night before a palyoff game was ever a happening, then on Wed. there was a concert in the same building that had a large crowd. NOT an excuse, but a thought.
Series tied at one, but in all honesty, I think you're in trouble. Gallant made some necessary adjustments and last night looked totally different. D tightened, and Luongo looked much better.

Youre telling me how ranger fans take over every game we play?
Hey man im actually at these games and whether its in brooklyn or MSG the crowds are generallyeven split but you go ahead and tell me how it really is . There's no real debate here just one guy reaching in you and one stating facts in me .
As far as us being in trouble we'll see. Luongo played a great game last night we'll see if he can keep it up hes not exactly known for getting up for big games. Should be a raucous atmosphere inbBrooklyn tomorrow night which will certainly push the home team. Hopefully the ranger fans dont take up most of our building |

So, you're saying when you play the Rangers..at Barclays or Nassau, the crowds are evenly split? Thanks for making my point. They are NOT at MSG. As stated, I'm a former NYer also been to these games. Isles my second team...now... and lived with Rags fans around me. Been there, saw that. Next...Good luck. BTW, we won't even get into what an atrocious arena Barclays is for hockey. - PanthersGoal
Yeah I am saying that. Depending on where the teams are in the standings yeah its an even split sometimes a little more for either side in both arenas. In the late nineties islander fans out numbered ranger fans at MSG. If youre a former New Yorker you should know that. At Barclays we've out numbered them EVERY single islander Ranger game I say that knowing that because I was there but keep on going on about how you know when you obviously dont. You cant just make shat up and expect people to just believe you because you said so and what the (frank) does how good arena Barclays is for hockey have to do with anything? You come off like a pretty bitter person just trying to find insults to justify your own lame arse points which arent based on anything. All of your points are based on "because I said so" which holds zero water in everyone else's head besides yours. |

I mean for game 1 we had 17,500 people in the arena.. that sells out 90% of arena's in the NHL. Last night we were at well over 18,000 (severe weather in the area I'm guessing caused people to turn around). I think the answer to the whole thing is to get rid of 1,000 seats or so. Also, what you all see on tv in the club isn't a fair way to judge our attendance. People sit IN the club to watch the game. I've asked Doug Cifu several times to make it so fans had to sit in their ticketed seats but they won't do that. It was plenty loud in there and the numbers will only grow. |

The answer is for you to not worry about attendance. You're obviously a Panthers fan. A sell out just means longer lines for beers/ bathrooms and more money for the owners. It's funny to joke around, but who really gives a (frank) how many fans the Panthers draw. |

10 years ago we averaged more fans per game than you all. In the last 10-15 years in any given year, our attendance has been higher than that of Anaheim, Chicago, Boston, Islanders, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Tampa... I can go on and on. The difference is social media never retweeted pictures of an empty Kiel Center. |

I generally don't get involved in the fray. But since December we've averaged 15,000 fans a game. That is huge considering where we were last season, especially when you consider we give away ZERO tickets to sponsors like previous ownership regimes. |
