Let's trade ennis for rights to speak to stamkos early and maybe we get a 4th rounder with him. Clearing out room
- Mangler

Absolutely not

Ennis isn't a guy we need to clear out
Solid 20goal scorer
That's way too much just to talk to someone
We can do that for a conditional draft pick

Let's just say we trade for Fowler
So next year, we protect him & Risto for sure
Then one of McCabe, Bogosian & say Yandle

Wouldn't it just make more sense to sign a "Yandle" next offseason,
AFTER the expansion draft?

Unless we don't give him a NMC, and then leave him exposed hoping Vegas would take him off our hands instead of McCabe for example

I guess I could see both viewpoints
But if I think McCabe is gonna be a solid guy next year or the year after (and I do), then I don't wanna pay Yandle, or whoever, 6 mil for 5+ years

I might be high on McCabe though
What you're saying makes sense if u want him in the 3rd pair though

- jdfitz77

I think that ices the best team

If you force McCabe on the 3rd pair, of course raise him up when injuries occur

I think you really need 5 decent d men and 2 serviceable guys on your nhl roster and 2 in rochester that can come up

IMO gorges, franson, pysyk
they all may be fine for the 6th d man on a GREAT team, not sure we can get great with any of them getting 18 minutes a night

After watching the Lightning Wings game, I'd sit Brad Richards on his ass with a one game suspension for his nasty wind up slash.

Also, while everybody would like Justin Abdelkader on their team, he's a total clown.

Fight like a man instead of throwing punches while a player is already on the ground and part of a pile.

- kingcong39

Abdelkader got hit from behind first, then piled on. Once he got off the bottom of the pile he flipped out on the other dude. Makes me think something might have happened that we couldn't see.
And I've wanted him here for years
Really good player who can move up & down the lineup

I have liked Abdelkader for years, never once did I think his new deal was a bad deal and if your only playing him 16-17 minutes a night, you have a really good team

That makes sense
Just don't know of the timing is right for the moves you're talking about making
Not that I wanna wait around,
But I don't wanna sign one guy just to lose him or another that we value to the stupid expansion draft

I think we can still move in the right direction with Gorges & Pysyk here
As long as we get Risto a good young partner, & they continue to progress into great defensemen

IMO, we'll be a true contender as soon as we get a couple of our young defensemen to the point where they're true "top pair" defensemen

I could see guys like Larsson & Girgensons taking a similar career path
Abdelkader was basically a 3rd/4th line energy guy for years, who could chip in around 10ish goals
Now he's a solid top6 guy who scores 20ish
He & Helm have been important & underrated players on Detroit for years now

How much would Detroit give up if Tim Murray took Datsyuk's salary for next year and allowed them to make space for Stamkos?

Mantha? Franzen?

- cnalderson

What would we want Franzen for?
He's done. Hasn't been able to play much bc of his back.
That's prob another salary they'd like off the books.

Martha I'd take, but I doubt they'd give him up.

Plus...
Why do we wanna HELP the Wings get better?

We get Stamkos, they lose Datsyuk...
That's sounds like a good plan to me!

Why do u think he's done?

I think he got off to a rough start (like many on our team) trying to adjust to Bylsma's system
Then he unfortunately got hurt

I fully expect him to bounce back

If we could get good trade value for him now, I'd do it
But I'm not just gonna dump the guy who's been the best player on our team for the last 3 years
Doesn't make sense to me

here is my honest assessment on Ennis

he is a 40-50 point player in the NHL

That's all he will ever be

As bad as his start was this past season, he was at roughly .5 ppg game pace, 40 point season

When the team really stunk, he popped in 46 points and we all expected a bump with eichel, kane and ror added to the team

is he a second line player on a really good team, that is what Murray has to ask himself

this is the second time he got dinged up for a bit, slight concern but the bigger issue is does he make that second line better, or will the second line make him better, or is he a piece for a fixture when we are really good

I think he just struggled, like many, to pick up Bylsma's system
He's likely to bounce back this season
And if some point we can do better than him on the 2nd line, fine
By the time Bailey, Fasching, whoever replaces him...
He'll have regained his trade value
At that point it makes sense to move him
But not now when we'll get a crappy return

It'll only bug me if we don't get anything back for him
If he can be part of a package that gets us a partner for Risto, then great!
Just don't see that happening this summer

I would move him for a LHD or have no problem seeing him in disco Dan's system a full year or if he's part of a bigger deal. This expansion draft is starting to worry me and there's a chance we might have to expose him to save others.

Ennis wouldn't get us the rights to stamkos.

He is locked up, and hasn't played since a concussion. I'm not quite sure people realize how low ennis' value is right now.

I could see that happening
He has a bounce back year, & then we trade him so we don't lose him

Btw...
I really focused on the Ducks game last night
I'd LOVE Lindholm or Fowler
Thought they both passed the puck up the ice nicely, Lindholm more so
And Folwler did a lot of nice little things in his own end that aren't really all that noticeable. Rubbing guys off the puck with good positioning, etc
And both had really nice poise with the puck

Hopefully we can work a deal out with the Ducks for one of them...
Even if we have to wait till next offseason

Murray won't give up anything to talk with Stamkos, he feels he has just as much chance or better to get him.
