At least two of those teams, Kings and Hawks didn't shell out giant $$ to their superstars until they had already won a Cup. LA went and got Richards and Carter, not exactly 12 million/year guys before their first and Toews/Kane and Crawford did not get paid until they got their first Cup. Just saying there are many ways to get high-end talent....drafting and developing comes to mind. And I'd just like to see one of the "stinks, 36, bum" crowd admit that signing 91 guarantees nothing.

Right. This kind of crap going the other way on a Canadian team's board results in a ban instantly. I, and many others, know from experience.

I don't usually ban anything that "old" (that mess was from Saturday), but finally being caught up I did anyways.

I still don't know how he fits on our team financially and positionally, but I know one thing, is that he will make this team better if signed. I think that's all anyone really needs to know.

Right. Guarantees aren't an attainable commodity in professional sports. I think the argument for signing Stamkos is about putting together a core of elite players that few or no other teams will be able to match.

The price tag is cringe-worthy in terms of the cap, but a very savvy GM can manage it. I assume Murray his this framework in mind if he goes all in for Stamkos.

Murray isn't going to sign Stamkos. He made his decision when he acquired Ryan O'Rielly. Entry level deals only last for so long and the Sabres have several expiring in and around the same time. The Red Wings could very well get him and move Datsyuk's contract to a floor dweller.

Watching all the games today that I DVRd...

Is there a defenseman in the league with a better point shot than Seabrook?
I can think of a few right up there...
But this guy seemingly always gets his shots through to the net, & if he doesn't score there's nice juicy rebounds.
There's definitely not another defenseman that scores big goals like him in the playoffs
And can play DEFENSE too for the 30min he's out there

I think he's actually underrated
Would vote for him for Norris over a guy like Karlsson for sure

Ennis and Moulson make 9.6 combined. They combined for less points and goals than Stamkos. So there's the money imo. Jack and Sam are still on their ELCs so you're able to keep 63 and 26 for now, then when they drop you pay them. There might be a cap casualty (Kane comes to mind first) but to me I make that deal. I'd rather have too many good players and a tight cap than a bunch of average players and room (obviously not signing Stamkos doesn't make all that we have average, just exaggerating.)

I cant understand why everyone is so steadfast in their belief that Molson's money can come off the cap quickly. He has a NTC (modified, reportedly) and there are only so many teams that need to spend to the floor. I think he's ours for a while.

if you get a chance to get one of the 3 current best goal scorers in the nhl, you get him


it's a coin toss between stamkos and hull for best free agent up front to hit the open market since #99, and we would be crazy not to think he makes our team better

From what I know of the situation, before his injury, the door is open for him to sign here. I believe that to still be the case. Everyone involved in the situation is going to tell him to sign here as it's his best option.

It's up to Stamkos however in the end. Only he can make the decision to come here.
