wow -- I guess they should keep the reviews, or get better refs - etchtech
I can see missing a call if you are jumping or whatever but 37%
I will try and find the link |

Holy Mackrel.
That's outrageous. I do not believe this should be reviewable.
I read elsewhere an idea I like - if you challenge and lose the challenge its a 2 minute delay of game penalty. - bcallaway
that's not bad. the league does want more scoring. separate topic, what about making the minor penalties like the major penalties? By that I mean, the team that committed the penalty remains shorthanded for the entire 2 minutes even if the team on the power play scores |

I see what you are doing there but that would cause too much confusion for the casual fan and the NHL is all about the casual fan |

That's a possibility.
What do you think about not allowing the shorthanded team to ice the puck on penalties?
I've always wanted to see that one experimented with.

You have to let them ice the puck otherwise they are hemmed in the zone and might not get a change leading to more injuries IMO |

Funny you should ask
I just read something on this
Off-sides was reviewed 99 times this season
62 upheld and 37 ruled no goal
So based only on the Video Replays they get it wrong 37% of the time - sycsam
That's convenient math as we like to say |

We are fans of a team that takes a lot of penalties and gets injured a lot do we really want a top line of Paajarvi Brodziak Jaskin? |

How many were overturned without concrete evidence because it is impossible to pinpoint exactly where the puck is due to the angle, puck off the ice, and depth of the puck between the player and the boards. |

I will say it was very nice sitting on my balcony two blocks from UC watching all the hawks fans go home disappointed. - sycsam
Similar story:
My wife and I live outside of Orlando. After the game yesterday, we took a walk to enjoy the great weather around Disney's Boardwalk where the ESPN Club resides. As we passed, there were still crowds of Hawk fans sitting in the open air part of the restaurant. My wife, who has no shame when it comes to the Blues, yelled "let's go Blues," and the collective grown heard from inside was music to our ears. |

What if the rule became: If an offside is challenged, the player who was offside must be a minimum distance offside to win the challenge. Essentially something like 6 inches past the blue line.
This would allow us to rectify Duchene's blatant offside and at the same time crack down on the number of challenges made. The players won't start playing to go over the line by 6 inches because the refs will still be calling the offside as normal. |

37/99 challenges overturned the call.
37/100 000 000 000, zone entries proven to have been called incorrect on the season.

So the future is panoramic cameras inside the ice looking up (goal lines and blue lines)? - Jason Millen
My initial reaction is read the rule literally. It doesn't matter if the skate is touching or not. It's where the back skate is, either in the air or on the ice. |

You do realize that they miss all kinds of offside calls where they blow the play dead when it really isn't offside? Or when they miss the call but a goal isn't scored?
These are not review-able. |

The fact that they had 99 reviews when it can only be reviewed on a play that had a goal scored right after is amazing actually.
That is a lot. I didn't expect anything near that many chances when I heard they were starting to review. Let alone 37 goals called back because they were really offside. (and by really offside, I mean maybe offside)

I guess he didn't heed my warning.

Those refs are tricksy. Bring down the ban hammer and delete all posts (evidence). |

From the time I first heard about the rule change this year I thought the off side challenge was a cheap way to negate a goal. The goalie interference I can see because you're talking about an actual play on which a goal was scored, but a player going slightly off side has no bearing on weather or not the goal would have been scored.
I was glad to see that the Blues, as far I can recall, have not used the off side challenge this year and if the roles were reversed, I would definitely consider that a cheap win. |
