age was part of it too.

but ur right, the Tavares deal is probley the best NHL deal over it's time.

- Lucas.Neilson

Duncan Keith is on a pretty great deal, IMO.

When you look at what Subban, etc are making.

keep in mind tavares didnt sign for any of his UFA years

the fact that kadri did means he costs more

this is nothing new around the league

He just has to hit the net more often. He is / will be fine at 4.5 mill.
- bixll

Yea, his shooting % was a career low this year.

Had it been his career average, he would have had something like 27 goals ish

Joe Colborne had 44 points this season
Kadri led the leafs with 45

That was under a different management group who didn't have the foresight to know that they were actually in the process of poopting themselves.

When I look at what Lou/Shanny/Babs have accomplished (i.e. shedding anchor contracts, dumping dead wood and hitting on a few picks) and the new (and exciting IMO) direction that the team appears to be headed and compare it to past regimes, it's pretty disturbing and now evident how badly this organization was managed and how many opportunities may have been squandered over the years.

Kadri not only went into UFA, but 4 years into UFA.

That's a lot of cheddar

When Tavares signed his last contract, he just had a 81pts season, Kadri had 45 this past season.
- Symba007

it was also 5 years ago
the leafs were paying Kadri like 3 mil at the same time..

Kadri 4.5 is a steal in 2016 ...

Wang won't give Tavares 10M+ per year
- Symba007

It won't be up Wang anymore as he did sell the team.

like babcock said... they plan to work on his shooting over the summer.

so long as kadri keeps his dedication levels to training i think we will see his shooting percentage go up

i also give him a by for the start of the season... some guys simply take longer to adapt to a new system... especially younger guys

once he got it his stats were actually very good.

yup.... kadri and tavares simply are not comparable.... completely different situations, time, cap, and circumstances.

Buying out Grabovski to turn around and give that money to Clarkson.

trading 3 picks for like 15 games of Dave Bolland

Using a compliance on Komisarek who was on his last year instead of Liles who became Gleason (who we are paying for 2 more years)

Just (frank)ing awful. Dave Nonis was such a poop GM.

At least when Shanny came, he made Dave recoup an entire draft worth of picks before he sent him packing

Incorrect facts

On June 23, 2011, the NHL announced that the salary cap would be increased by $4.9 million. As a result, the new salary cap ceiling was set at $64.3 million

On September 14, 2011, Tavares signed a six-year, $33 million extension with the Islanders.

You are right, this is the year Wang goes from majority to minority owner

August 19th, 2014
The New York Islanders announced Tuesday that former Washington Capitals co-owner Jon Ledecky and investor Scott Malkin have reached an agreement to purchase a substantial minority interest in the team.

Under terms of the agreement, Charles Wang will continue as majority shareholder and governor of the Islanders, with the Ledecky/Malkin group transitioning to majority ownership in two years.

And we're just scraping the surface with the above.

Don't forget about Phil's deal and signing Phaneuf for the sake of "good TV"

I disagree it was for the good of TV. Everytime I said 'TRADE HIM DON'T SIGN HIM' leading up to the Phaneuf deal the response was "who's going to play his minutes?"
