Quickly fading? Simmonds just had a 30 goal season. Voracek is a year removed from leading the Art Ross race for 3/4 of the season. Giroux, who is taking a lot of maintenance days (AKA playing through something that will only be revealed after the playoff run ends), is two seasons removed from being a Hart Trophy finalist and is still in his prime at 28. - bmeltzer
one series win in 5 years as "the core"...but hey.....if that is what you call "success", Ill accept that. Good luck in future seasons.
No harm done. |

You cant make some of this stuff up.
Oh no, a small perecentage of fans out of 20,000 people threw plastic bracelets on the ice!!
That has NEVER happened at multiple arenas across the NHL before.
People act like they were throwing grenades out onto the ice. - Hatchet
The problem is they threw something to honor a guy like Snider... That was low. |

I think the woman should have gotten out of there with the infant once things were being thrown, but who knows what the situation was down there?
My point exactly. Philly is perceived as having a crazy classless fan base, but really they are no better or worse than any others given the right circumstances. - Hextall271
I know Toronto fans are not known for being Boisterous, but the dome got LOUD last year in the playoffs, and she was sitting near field level, the direction where everyone is cheering.
That can't be good for an infant's hearing. I seriously don't think a playoff sporting event is a place a baby should be.

Your "core" hasn't done anything in how many years now?? Giroux, Simmonds and Voracek are past their primes. How old were Kane and Toews when they won their cups?? Kopitar?? Stamkos?? Sid and Geno?
If you think a 30 year old Grioux and Voracek can win cups against a 23 year old McD and Draisitl, Eichel and Reinhart, Matthews and Nylander....
well....Ill take that bet - Ripped Fuel

Giroux is 27?! Can't be he played good for a few months and is now tired and unable to compete, sounds like he's 47 - JoeRussomanno
Or he is hurt, which is my guess.
27 or 47, if you play the number of games, and with the amount of effort they needed to play at to secure a spot in the playoffs, its going to take its toll. |

I'm curious what the consensus is on Jake these days? Is it yet again, another overpayment on a player based on what he did in one particular year? I know that he's recently come off an injury, but to me, it seems that it's a confidence issue too.
Yes, he scored 1 of our 2 goals this series ( ), let's be honest...it was a bit on the fluky side. I like Jake, but I've seen him have so many opportunities to score this season only to fall short. Yes, he's a playmaker, I get it...but 8M for a winger?
Bill, what's your assessment on Jake? |

I have a deep rooted connection to this team. I'm sure most of us on this site do.
I don't know about you guys, but tonight- just this one night- I wish I didn't. This is just so utterly awful...demoralizing.
The fans and players turned a night to honor Mr. Snider into one that'll live in infamy in Flyerdom. - Giroux_Is_God
I've been a fan since 1971. I've seen the good and the bad. I absolutely love the Flyers. I was at that game last night and I am so embarrassed and sickened by the fans. I was sitting up really high and a lot of the bands came from above me so from the suites. I get that the Flyers are outclassed but those bands represented the man who brought hockey to Philly. Boo if you want but JFC people. what a way to pay tribute to Snider. way to go fans. I'm so upset.

When will professional sports organizations learn that giving away low-value trinkets is a bad idea.
How many times do those things end up on the playing surface?
I vaguely remember one Toronto game where these flimsy little vinyl/foam seat cushions were given out. Those things fly almost as well as frisbees.

How many goals do you think he scores without someone like Giroux to help set it up?
They do need secondary scoring to help when the first line is struggling like in this series.
It''s a big reason I would like Stamkos if they can get him for 10 or under. I would love to have the threat of a legit sniper who can score at any time. - J35Bacher
No thank you!! That scenario has Vinny written all over it. Yes, Vinny was older, but Stamkos' best years are behind him...and that's pretty easy to see. |

I love the disillusionment of the fans. What Jake did for one year? Voracek has 244 points over his last 285 games, and that includes this year (his first down year as a Flyer).
He didnt just produce in one year... he has been one of the msot productive right wingers in the league over the last 4 years. |

If you think its up to 3 guys to win a cup, then I have no way of speaking to you.
The Flyers issue is NOT Giroux, Simmonds, or Voracek.
The Flyers issue is NOT Steve Mason.
The Flyers issue is that they are playing with a patchwork group of d-men, and have 5-6 fourth liners currently on the team.
Bellemare, White, Vandevelde, Read, Laughton & Cousins (learning curve).
We lack secondary skill. That will be corrected very soon. - jak521
...and primary skill. Sorry, had to do it |

Because all of them have next to no secondary scoring help, and have been playing "playoff" games since January. |

We shouldn't think so, but I have to admit, I am a little leery of the Leafs throwing 10+ at himi for 7 years (or 8 if they trade for his rights).

Right on! Losing to the better team no shame in that. Being thoroughly embarrassed from A to Z is unacceptable. Throwing poop on the ice, embarrassing Ed Snider's family, purposely trying to injure the opposition when the game is out of hand. All chicken poop stuff. That was a despicable display. I know Bellamare isn't typically a dirty player, but that hit could have easily paralyzed Orlov. Then what? Real black eye for the franchise last night. No sugar coating it.

I don't think he is going to Toronto. I think it will be somewhere no one expects. I don't see him wasting his best years in a rebuild unless it is all about the money.
Maybe Buffalo gets involved. ANd I wouldn't sleep on Philly. I think they are attractive with the prospects and closer to competing then Toronto. |

It's really disappointing that a reliable, hard working guy like Bellemare would make such a dumb mistake. The game was already lost, but it didn't need to end as a penalty riddled, shooting gallery. Bellemare may still get a suspension, but he's really lucky Orlov wasn't hurt.
I had actually changed the channel for a bit and when I came back Washington were just starting the 5 minute PP. So I assumed it was White or Gudas that had done something stupid. |
