Biggest take away for me is how small our top players have performed. Playoffs are when your stars play like stars. Holtby having 1 point equal to the point total to G and Jake is abysmal.
I didn't expect to advance but I sure as heck didn't expect this. - Pelle31Forever
I'm sure we will be hearing about a lot of surgeries to repair this and that this summer.
I am truly happy just to be here. At the beginning of this season we were talking lottery, and people would jump all over anyone who said that if these young players just took a step forward it could be a bubble playoff team.
The experience they are getting is invaluable. Sometimes the toughest lessons are the ones that do the most good.
Players like Ghost, Cousins, Laughton, are getting good lessons, lessons that only come from actually being IN IT.
A few hundred idiots once again ruined it for the other 19,500 and in the process embarrassed not only themselves, but completely poop on the memory of Ed Snider. That cant be forgiven, and I hope they get theirs in one way or another.
They are no different than the few poopbags in here who constantly try to ruin it for everyone else.
Now, lets play at least one more game, try to regain some pride. Draft a big fast forward who can score, and start to integrate the kids as they come up.

Didn't vancouver get burnt down when they lost the cup? This isn't a "philly" thing it's morons are everywhere thing. - JoeRussomanno
Well I wouldn't say Vancouver got burned down... but yeah there was a pretty ugly riot. If you are from Toronto, it was a pretty hilarious riot.
Again, I know it is a tiny minority that creates the impression, but Philly fans had a LONG reputation even before last night. Can you really deny that? If, before last night, you asked someone for the most obnoxious fan base at a live event, I doubt Toronto or Vancouver gets mentioned, but I'm pretty sure a lot of people would put Philly near the top.

Flyers vs Caps at 5v5 has been a hell of a battle. A lot of fun to watch as well.
Flyers vs Caps on the special teams has been out right disastrous and not fun at all.
I said it a few months ago, and Im sticking by it now. I think Ghost needs to be moved to the far side on the PP. We sorta turned into a one trick pony when Ghost first came up. But teams know what he brings now. So stop putting it through him first. The puck needs to be on G's stick. Ghost doesnt have a deflectable shot. He just crushes it as hard as he can and hopes for the best. It has virtually eliminated both Schenn and Simmer from the PP. Turns a 5 man unit into a 2-3 man unit.
As for the PK, aside from being incredibly passive, they seem to run a tight box 1-1-2. They stack the forwards to take away the middle of the ice, but it never works. The Caps are living off of it. Super frustrating. |

I think Hextall has to bear some of the blame for this debacle as well. He knew this team was gonna struggle to make it to the playoffs, and that they'd be gassed if they did made it, only to go up against the Caps (who looked primed to make it to the ECF's).
Yet he gave them no help at all, despite extra picks in this year's draft as well as next year's. Despite an abundance of quality prospects, many at the same position -D-. He knew they were outgunned and had virtually no depth.
What kind of message does it send to a team when they know the organization has plenty of assets to use yet does nothing with them? Look at every other team in the playoffs, they loaded up to get ready for the big push. The Flyers were fed to the lions with a butter knife for defense and told to fend for themselves. Hexy didn't need to mortgage the future, but any help he could have given them would have brought some new energy to the group.
By doing nothing, he essentially told them "you're on your own". That's some cold blooded sh!t to say to a team that played their guts out all season. - WhirlingDervish
He's been steadfast in his plan to not trade for the now, but for the future. What was he supposed to trade? As for the players being fed to the lions, they themselves said they were happy he didn't make any moves and that they felt by seeing no one walk out the door at the deadline, that this was the room that was going to get into the playoffs together.

not a good night for the franchise....of all nights...the night to honor Mr. Snider.
Sad.
In three games you have 1 pt from Giroux, Simmonds, and Voracek. That's a pretty big red flag.
You could rebuild the defense with those three...trade em all for young defenseman and by the time the high draft pick forwards are ready to rock, the young D will be too. Keep in mind, Edmonton is looking for the same thing you are..you have to make offers comparable to RNH, Eberle, Hall and whoever else they may move (I think Draisitl and McDavid are locked in)
Its time to gut it guys. |

I am trying to figure out what facination leaf fans have in this room? - vejim
First of all, this series has been the most entertaining one. Second, last night's game was "eventful".
I am not here laughing at the team, or the fans, or talking poop about the Flyers. I am commenting on the fans reaction and the reputation. I am not insulting others or their opinions.
Exactly what do you think is more interesting? Do you think there has never been a fan of another team on the Toronto boards. Do you think when we had an epic game 7 collapse against Boston that we didn't hear about it?

When defensemen are the strength of the farm system -- by far -- why would they trade three forwards in their primes to get more young D in the system?

Sorry to see this last night folks, and I actually do feel for those of you that are indeed good hockey fans.....
But there is indeed a very valid reason that Philadelphia, the Flyers, and its fans have earned the rep, narrative, whatever you want to call it that they have. While I obviously know it doesn't apply to all of you, it wouldn't be sustained unless there was continuing, and compelling examples of the kind of ugliness that surrounds this team. When your organization spends decades crafting its image as that of one that plays on and beyond the edge and frankly enjoys being the role of the villain, you can't just decide that you aren't any more overnight. There's a reason that the rest of us scoff when you say "they Flyers aren't that kind of team anymore" or "most of the fans aren't like that". You can't change how your franchise is viewed when you allow any iota of tolerance for morons who did what they did last night, or when you have players who say stuff like "I would have been throwing stuff too". This stuff is ingrained in the DNA of the franchise, and it emboldens the thuggery on the ice and in the stands. I'm certainly not saying that any of the other 29 teams in the league don't have their share of jagoffs, but your team has a loud and vocal contingent that consistently appears to want to revel in acting like human gutter trash. This group is larger than any of you would probably want to admit...and since I've been watching this for almost 40 years now, its clear that the torch gets passed from one generation to the next. This is how you are defined. It's what your franchise is, either accept it, or next time you are in the stands, take action to have the ushers throw the trash out and force the organization to make changes that are more than lip service.
Good day. |

2 High rated D prospects on Provorov and Sanheim. Plus some addition pieces for the D in Morin, Hagg, and Myers. No need to go for D. Scoring help will be needed. |

Understandable... but I never stated it was a philly-only problem. I am sure Leafs fans did something obnoxious, but I honestly can't remember an incident like that.
Of course, they haven't been in the playoffs much for so long that my 50+ year old memory may be failing me.
and yeah, football fans in Europe take pride behaving like idiots all the time. |

I expect desperation changes for Game 4 after zero changes have been made since the start of the playoffs. Whether Medvedev comes in for Manning because we're starved for goals or Nuevirth in net to give the Caps a different look on net, it will all be too little too late. The switch of Voracek for Schenn on the top line just before the playoffs is still ahead scratcher to me. For the most part I think I would put Schenn back with G and Simmonds. |

I guess the silver lining to us being bumhole fans, is that we are still fans. As in, even when we are terrible, we still support the team. Never had to be bailed out by the league, never were expected to fold up and move to the desert. Your franchise and "fan base" will evaporate in just a few more years. |

Because no franchise is going to trade young scoring (by far the most difficult commondity to obtain) for a quickly fading Giroux, Simmonds and Voracek.
you can never have too many young defenseman....if you have 10..GOOD....just imagine what Edmonton would give you NOW for a few of those guys if they were ready. load up on D and keep the best
These three have had many a year to lead, and have failed miserably, trade them at the draft. I speak from experience. I watch Vanek, Pomminville, and Miller do the same. They blamed management....until they went and failed in other towns....gut it |
