I agree with time to gut it, except for simmer maybe schenn and couts, they're pretty young still amd simmer dedicating that game last week makes him a lifer for me.. But they have d-prospects they need to add forwards. - JoeRussomanno
Why gut it?
We finally have players in the system making their way up. We have a group of young forwards playing secondary roles to our top forwards who are all still young. Giroux is 27. Look at our core!
Yea, lets blow it up. Great idea. |

Sorry to see this last night folks, and I actually do feel for those of you that are indeed good hockey fans.....
But there is indeed a very valid reason that Philadelphia, the Flyers, and its fans have earned the rep, narrative, whatever you want to call it that they have. While I obviously know it doesn't apply to all of you, it wouldn't be sustained unless there was continuing, and compelling examples of the kind of ugliness that surrounds this team. When your organization spends decades crafting its image as that of one that plays on and beyond the edge and frankly enjoys being the role of the villain, you can't just decide that you aren't any more overnight. There's a reason that the rest of us scoff when you say "they Flyers aren't that kind of team anymore" or "most of the fans aren't like that". You can't change how your franchise is viewed when you allow any iota of tolerance for morons who did what they did last night, or when you have players who say stuff like "I would have been throwing stuff too". This stuff is ingrained in the DNA of the franchise, and it emboldens the thuggery on the ice and in the stands. I'm certainly not saying that any of the other 29 teams in the league don't have their share of jagoffs, but your team has a loud and vocal contingent that consistently appears to want to revel in acting like human gutter trash. This group is larger than any of you would probably want to admit...and since I've been watching this for almost 40 years now, its clear that the torch gets passed from one generation to the next. This is how you are defined. It's what your franchise is, either accept it, or next time you are in the stands, take action to have the ushers throw the trash out and force the organization to make changes that are more than lip service.
Good day. - Emperor Filonius
I have done exactly what you say.
I have had a Flyers fan ejected for baiting a Pens fan for two periods then when the Pens fan finally responded they callied security and trying to get the Pens fan thrown out. When security arrived and started to try and eject the Pens fans I told the security guard that it was started by the reporting party and when others around me backed me up the security guard apologized to the Pens fans and walked down and escorted the idiot out. I am all for a little back and forth between fan bases but that idiot crossed a line.

And leaf fams never did anything obnoxious? No I won't deny people from philly get obnoxious. But are we saying people from all the other major metro cities are saints? Hell look at Europe and they go nuts over soccer. I just get annoyed when ppl act like this is a philly only problem. - JoeRussomanno
Last year dodgers fan beaten by Giants fans.
The incident at at candlestick between niners and raiders fans
Washington caps fans throwing beers at Carter during interview
Canucks fans rioting
Yankee fan assaulted at Oriole park
and so on and so on and so on
Is it right, Absolutely not. BUt it happens every. I am embarrassed at what the fans did. But lets not have people claim Philly is the 3rd ring of hell for this stuff. |

We'll blow it up then rebuild. Gotta get good before Couturier and Schenn reach 27 though. Otherwise, you got it, we blow it up again. |

Understandable... but I never stated it was a philly-only problem. I am sure Leafs fans did something obnoxious, but I honestly can't remember an incident like that.
Of course, they haven't been in the playoffs much for so long that my 50+ year old memory may be failing me.
and yeah, football fans in Europe take pride behaving like idiots all the time. - Aetherial

Because no franchise is going to trade young scoring (by far the most difficult commondity to obtain) for a quickly fading Giroux, Simmonds and Voracek.
you can never have too many young defenseman....if you have 10..GOOD....just imagine what Edmonton would give you NOW for a few of those guys if they were ready. load up on D and keep the best
These three have had many a year to lead, and have failed miserably, trade them at the draft. I speak from experience. I watch Vanek, Pomminville, and Miller do the same. They blamed management....until they went and failed in other towns....gut it - Ripped Fuel
The Flyers are in fine shape. They have been playing playoff games for the better part of 2 months, and are exhausted. They are playing the Cup favorites and matching them pretty well at 5v5. They are getting crushed on special teams.
It would likely be a much more entertaining series with Couts and Del Zotto playing as well.
I love what this team has done this year, and the direction they are moving in. Should be good for a long time. |

Quickly fading? Simmonds just had a 30 goal season. Voracek is a year removed from leading the Art Ross race for 3/4 of the season. Giroux, who is taking a lot of maintenance days (AKA playing through something that will only be revealed after the playoff run ends), is two seasons removed from being a Hart Trophy finalist and is still in his prime at 28.

well first, Why the F was a woman sitting there with an infant in a stadium in that situation. That is absolutely ridiculous.
Also, the Toronto media was all over the Jays fans for that.
It was also pretty much a one-off and it was a very unusual set of circumstances. An umpire calls a play dead. THEN, they decide the play should not have been called dead, and allow a run to count, late in the game, that looked like it might end the Jays season. (That half hour of that game was one of the most bizarre things I have ever seen in sports )
Pretty sure that if the equivalent thing happened in Philadelphia, late in an elimination game, where a play was called dead, then reversed, and the other team awarded points post facto... you would have seen a similar reaction - Aetherial
I think the woman should have gotten out of there with the infant once things were being thrown, but who knows what the situation was down there?
My point exactly. Philly is perceived as having a crazy classless fan base, but really they are no better or worse than any others given the right circumstances.

They do need secondary scoring to help when the first line is struggling like in this series.
It''s a big reason I would like Stamkos if they can get him for 10 or under. I would love to have the threat of a legit sniper who can score at any time. |

If you think a 30 year old Grioux and Voracek can win cups against a 23 year old McD and Draisitl, Eichel and Reinhart, Matthews and Nylander....
well....Ill take that bet |

You cant make some of this stuff up.
Oh no, a small perecentage of fans out of 20,000 people threw plastic bracelets on the ice!!
That has NEVER happened at multiple arenas across the NHL before.
People act like they were throwing grenades out onto the ice. |

They played hard to make the playoffs.
The caps didn't look as dominant in the last month and I think people started to sleep on them a little bit. It is possible that they just sort of mailed it in towards the end and we are starting to see the real Capitals team again.
I know it isn't fun for the Philly fans, but Washington is a damn good team. They may be the best team in the league. - Aetherial
I think they will lose, but it won't be until the semis or the final. A team with some depth, a d corp not comprised of a rookie and five 3-6 dmen who can also score on the PP will be able to take them out.
I'm pretty sure Pittsburgh can beat them if they get past the rangers haah |

Bill,
What would be something you would look for in the offseason to help the team? I know the plan so I doubt they are huge players in FA unless it breaks right.
One type of player I would like is a Pat Maroon type. Big, edgy player who has skills that can move up and down the lineup. He can play with skill guys but also play a bottom 6 role. |

If you think its up to 3 guys to win a cup, then I have no way of speaking to you.
The Flyers issue is NOT Giroux, Simmonds, or Voracek.
The Flyers issue is NOT Steve Mason.
The Flyers issue is that they are playing with a patchwork group of d-men, and have 5-6 fourth liners currently on the team.
Bellemare, White, Vandevelde, Read, Laughton & Cousins (learning curve).
We lack secondary skill. That will be corrected very soon. |
