Shaw is definitely hurt but keeps fighting like a warrior. To have that call made in the final 3 mins of the game was simply incompetent. He had a right to be frustrated but still no excuse for it. A sign of exhaustion and frustration? Not just with the officiating - which was atrocious and one sided last night for the Blues. - tredbrta
Someones celebrating 4-20 a little heavy today.
If the refs weren't all secretly sporting Blackhawk trampstamps, and Chelsea Dagger cell phone ringtones, we would have been shooting on Darling for the 2nd half of the game. Crawford should have gotten chucked for that BS with Fabbri. |

Shaw gets 1 game and 5k - Jason Millen
From a selfish Blues fan perspective, it's great to not have to deal with him in game 5.
From an NHL fan perspective, I understand why the league did this, the optics are important. But the league regulating what's said on the ice is a dangerous slippery slope. |

How do the Hawks conspiracy theorists spin this one? Potential elimination game and a guy tied for the team lead in playoff scoring and leading the team in net crashing play gets sat by the league? |

Two thoughts: 1) wasn't it also for the "double salute" dissent directed at the refs as well? 2) It was clear what he said on national TV. There's a difference between what is said and not heard and what is said where all can see or hear... |

Fine was for the gesture, suspension for the slur, NHL specified. |

This surprised me, that they specified. |

Hawk players have been suspended for every other infraction in the rule book, might as well make it a clean sweep |

I'm glad Shaw is suspended, but how will the Blues get another power play without that butthole on the ice? |

I look at this Shaw situation like driving on a highway. Everybody on the highway breaks the laws (speeding, not paying attention, ect,) just like everybody playing hockey says & does things they shouldn't. Just because everyone does it, doesn't make it ok, but is pretty common place & flies under the radar, so you can't police every transgression.
However, every once in a while, the cops catch you doing the things you shouldn't, so you get a ticket. In this case, the cops are the TV cameras, & Shaw was guilty of something more socially sensitive, like drunk driving. He'll spend a night in jail, pay some $$$, & it'll always be on his record. |

Agreed. Not sure why Shaw didn't get a penalty for this one either. He clearly was in Brouwer's way. http://www.csnchicago.com...o-frustrated-blues-game-4

Gotta love hawks fans. Refs give penalties only to Blues for things both teams do, they refuse to admit they are getting favored, then whine about the things both teams did that didn't get called on either team. |

Why was Shaw tea bagging Steen's stick?! - eggsegan
ha
fighting is way down, the goons have mostly disappeared, but the sport can still be nasty and punishing. does the NHL want fighting to completely disappear? would that be good for the game? |

I still can't believe the Panarin-Kuzy-Tarasenko line. Talk about the perfect mix of skill sets. Unreal. I'm thinking Russia might reunite the trio eventually. |

I got to break th news to you: if you ever played hockey then you know all the way upnto even beer leagues when you near the paint you get cross checked by the dmen. Sometimes you can give some back. But there has always been a palpable line to not cross. That line tends to be a certain force from a cross check, which is the rarest and then the gone awry jackhammer where you get two maybe three shots in short succession without getting called but that fourth usually is considered over the top.
Shaw just got unlucky and caught JayBo in a vulnerable spot after a whistle where JayBo nearly kissed the pipes. That was probably enough to be considered crossing the line.
But honestly I have been watching it both ways. You could almost make the same call against the other team as any of the calls being made. Who knows exactly why one thing warrants a call and another does not. I have seen Steen look like he is sculpting marble out there with all his stick work and I have seen Toews do the same. - BluemanGuruu
At one point Shaw went in to Elliot feet first with minimal contact.
Heard one of the best descriptions of the hawks today. Punks
Team who will talk trash, do the dirty stick work and other garbage but wont drop them when challenged. |

Hawks aren't a dirty team, they aren't punks. But they are guilty of committing several untimely stupid penalties so far in this series, mainly games 3 and 4 when they had 2-1 leads. |

Suspension count says otherwise.
