Suspension count says otherwise. - Antilles
I'm not trying to be a wiener, I'm actually curious, where do you look up league wide suspension totals by team? |

From a selfish Blues fan perspective, it's great to not have to deal with him in game 5.
From an NHL fan perspective, I understand why the league did this, the optics are important. But the league regulating what's said on the ice is a dangerous slippery slope. - Antilles
They always have regulated. They have a wide berth just sucks when you draw attention to yourself and use hate language. If he said an ethnic slur same business. It was not right. The truth is he went well over the top not just with that nonsense but the doible barrel salute. I would not want my kids witnessing such behavior going unpunished. Although if my kids saw those actions it would provide a prime example of how not to behave what it looks like when they throw a temper tantrum. |

You have to do some research. You can get yearly totals and it takes a bit of number crunching as there are details for a few years here and a few years there. |

How do the Hawks conspiracy theorists spin this one? Potential elimination game and a guy tied for the team lead in playoff scoring and leading the team in net crashing play gets sat by the league? - eggsegan
Simple it is only a single game and he tied the NHL's hands on that one. One of the negatives about being a big market team is everyone is watching you. Twitter, facebook, you bet I spent two hours pumping that put to all my friends and their friends saw it as well. |

Hubrus already?
What window do you speak of? First round advances?
Win a Cup first... and show some class doing it. - tredbrta
It is hubris or hybris and it comes from the ancient Greek. Though I suspect you might only grasp the connotative concept of the word you certainly do not realize the irony of you phrasing your statement in this manner; which, would then show you actually understand the meaning of the word.
Stoping being a saddist and conduct yourself in a manner becoming a decent human being. |

fighting is way down, the goons have mostly disappeared, but the sport can still be nasty and punishing. does the NHL want fighting to completely disappear? would that be good for the game? - etchtech
Yes it is going to have to go to the way side and they have been slowing and steadily removing it from the game.
It is a passionate game and I never had issues when passions boiled over, I just never like the face off then fight thing.
Heck I would not be surprised to see hitting slowly taken out of the game. Especially since not a lot of these guys know how to body check anymore. Pushing, both hands on the stick, fore arm shivers, all show players who do not know how to properly body check or position themselves to do so anymore. Also far too much cross checking away from the paint. I loved getting cross checked in the back and the goalie slashing my ankles, meant I was doing something right. Every now and then a clown would cross the line and it was usually obvious enough to get a call. Every now and then they catch you just right and you retaliate and you go to the box. Such is hockey.
Most of the time you play hockeynyou cannot fight and the game is just fine in those cases so why is fighting needed?
What do you think man? |

At one point Shaw went in to Elliot feet first with minimal contact.
Heard one of the best descriptions of the hawks today. Punks
Team who will talk trash, do the dirty stick work and other garbage but wont drop them when challenged. - Gerk
Gamesmanship man. Every level you play you are taught to hack more and more and how to do it so you do not get called.
Man back in the day I had the Webster fans chanting my name in the phrase North County greaser. I hit hard, hacked a bit, got guys to go crazy, and then I would score. I also talked a lot of poop in the corners.
Better than fighting is scoring a goal or better yet saying to your opponent, scoreboard. |

Man do not be like the Hawks fans from years past who said that of our beloved Blues. Do not stoop to that level. Most of the guys coming on here are showing class. None of us control those guys on the ice.
They have some players who have most certainly crossed the lines one of which if his name were Raffi Torres would still be watching the games. |

agreed. it's always been part of the game. it's nature way of releasing tension. but it's also a way the players police the game. without fighting, there would be a lot more dirty stick work. |

But since the instigator it really does not happen. Best evidence man was when Shawn Thorton demanded the price fight from Orpik and Orpik refused and Thorton just attacked him.
Shaw rarely is willing to drop his gloves and answer for his hacks and whacks and instead smiles and irritates his opponents. Backes rarely answers the bell when the player is bigger than him. Some players accept the honor of it and fight even after perfectly legal hits and what for?
I think it would not be terrible to go back but I think the culture is moving away from that stuff.
So I think the NHL better figure out a good response suspension wise and the players association should get on board. I mean do you think if Keith would have got up and challened Voyle to a figtt he would have accepted? Would you want Keith fighting in that situation?
Tarasenko got into a fight earlier in the season and I was horrified because I was thinking don't break your hands, don't break your hands. Maybe he hurt them because if I remember right it was about the time his scoring slowed down for a stretch.
All I know is there are no simple answers to this. Fighting has been designed to comemout ofnthe game and it will. Colin Campbell is getting old, soon a younger person who is more progressive will take over for him. If the player saefty guys were not former players who fought then it will change to be sure. |

Hawks fans from years past? In this very thread one suggested Blues get bonuses for head shots. And of course none of us control the guys on the ice. I'm not sure how anything was implied otherwise. Hawks get suspended far more often than Blues. If hawks fans don't want to be reminded of that, they shouldn't claim Hawks aren't dirty on a board that has been inundated for years all the way up to today with Hawks fans claiming Blues are dirty. |

I know it man but we are better than that.
I was just reading their thread and the craziness being written. I just want to focus on hockey. Both ways a lot of stuff is going uncalled and our perception bias is easily checked by what many have written or said about the Fabbri play.
There are many of them over there that will cry and call our team dirty no matter what. It has become their narrative and most of them are incapable of viewing it any other way.
Personally I do not want to be like that. I am tired of letting small minded people affect me negatively. Hell tredberta is over there pretending that harmful words are okay and it is just victim mentality that makes a oerson be hurt by words. The guy who called me, who happens to be a disabled vet, Bowie Bergdahl and took pleasure in it hurting me and getting me upset.
Stop for a second and think of what kind of person enjoys tormenting other people and refuses to accept responsibility for doing so. The kind of person who probably tortured animals as a kid, liked to start fires, and wet the bed until an older age.
The ref screwed up on the first Hawk no goal and we benefitted. It happens. The refs are not great quality and a lot of it seems to benefit the Hawks, but not always.
Hell most of those guys either have never played hockey nor watched it for a long period of time to understand that when you go to the blue paint you get cross checked and hacked.
I think we should just ignore their horse crap. Rise above it and enjoy this. I know tthebyear they beat us and the year Minny beat us those fans were butt holes about it all. I do not want to be like that. Some of their fans are cool and level headed and enjoy talking about hockey. I am all for talking about hockey and in friendly atmosphere busting each other's chops. |

Isn't this the point and time where we hear that half the team has been wiped out with the flu bug and Rattie, Reaves and Paarvi will be the top line?

Personally, I'm rooting for a Blues win in OT. There may not be anything more gut-wrenching than playing for your life one second and having to line up for a hand shake in the blink of an eye and your season's over.
I won't be comfortable until the Hawks are dead, dead, dead. I don't want them to get up off the mat.
