I don't disagree w you and the times

but those picks were Oilers picks. You take them than go to a closed room and jump up and down and off the walls...especially with the job security he had

You take and run with Oilers, Flames, Leafs, Jets( than Thrashers), Yotes, islanders and Panthers

No thanks if was Bruins, Rangers, Wings, Penguins perpetual challengers or even Flyers Habs pretender types

Above applies almost every year despite a few random good and bad years in each category

What a horrible summer it was!!!!! I fired off a nasty letter to Quinn, and he actually penned a response to me.

I equate it to the hate for Bettman in a way. No one likes the guy, but his role is a puppet for the owners - be the face that takes the hits for anything bad that gets decided. The owners rule the league and have to be on board/approve everything, they just get to avoid the heat because there's a short man to take it for them.

Agreed. I hate his face, but he does his job well.

"I expected so much more from him

hardly ever showed emotion"

Hahahahaha funny you say that. I have a buddy that couldn't stand his face and that big visor. Still to this day calls people jaroslavs when they're being a wet blanket

all I can remember is the team down 3 or 4 goals and the camera showing him with no expression on the bench

Problem was, Yzerman wasn't selling low, so the frustration is unwarranted.

Don't judge a book by its cover. Germans are not very emotive people.

However, Vanek was a dud.

Off topic, and not being insensitive, does McCormick's 1.5 mill still count against our cap???

Murray said it'll be a LTIR contract or there could be an injury settlement.

I don't believe an injury settlement counts.

I love that its there...but the Canadian bias is unbelievable on that station

Pretty sure they are under the impression that there are any no American teams outside of NYR, the Blackhawks, and MAYBE the Kings

Well only 10 owners are needed for a decision, so not ALL of them.

You are also allowed to insure a certain number of contracts prior to the season for injury purposes.

I'd bet up until last year Prongers was one of those.

He's only getting $575k for 15/16 and 16/17.

Should we ensure Lehner? Ennis? Kane? ROR?

You know are injury prone guys?

yup...it was actually four and the oilers were only a year removed from appearing in the Stanley Cup finals...

sure, they had a rough 06-07 season but still had only the sixth-overall pick (Sam Gagner) in the 2007 draft...methinks adding vanek would've made that pick even lower.

they had the 22nd pick in 2008 (Jordan eberle)
the 10th in 2009 (magnus paajarvi)
and the 1st overall in 2010 (taylor hall)

those were the players they took, but that's not to say the sabres would've picked that high

- Michael Pachla

Sabres having also lost Vanek would have kicked our own draft spot up a few notches those years. So in 2008 we probably still would have taken Myers, but just a few spots up from 12. 2009 we took Kassian but maybe could have had Ryan Ellis or Calvin Da Haan. 2010 we took Pysyk at 23 but being Vanek less maybe we could have gotten Bjugstad at 19 or even Tarasanko at 16. And 2011 Armia at 16 but Brodin was at 10 and Hamilton went at 9.

It was a big mistake not taking Edmontos draft picks and doing a full-on rebuild, we could have had one hell of a team. And yeah, I get the whole but then we wouldn't have Eichel, but hey, nobody even heard of Eichel in 2008-2011

You can say this all in hindsight, but had they let Vanek go and the team on the ice the next season come out with such poop, the poop storm would have been even bigger.
