Hasn't the front office also been pooped on for their poor drafting? If Vanek was let go and the picks turned into Zagrapan type picks, then it's even worse.
1st round picks made by the Sabres:
2006: Dennis Persson
2007: none
2008: Myers, Ennis
2009: Kassian
2010: Pysyk
Not exactly overwhelming, and could have turned out even worse.
Let's not act like the team was complete crap, they DID make the playoffs after losting Drury and Briere. It's possible they would have missed out those years, paired with crap/equivalent draft years and the arena would look like Florida. - stashu
Sure, it's possible they could have blown the picks, I wouldn't put it past Darcy and his scouts at the time. But I have to disagree on us ever looking like Florida, never will happen in this town.

Ugh... that franchise is such an embarrassment. Even if you made all your decisions by flipping a coin, I think you could have gotten that team into the playoffs by now. Seriously, children could run the organization better than the idiots who have been in place. - sskkoo1
Taco and I were going back and forth about the Bills on Pachla's last blog (well after this new one). I would like to hear other Bills feedback if people are up for it. Mentioning the old blog though so maybe we can keep it off here in case others don't want to get stuck reading about the other bad team. |

Who cares?
It's the Bills. - dadeadhead
The Bills are F'd for sure.
If TT plays well next season, the price goes up considerably from the rumored $20m per. If he plays like crap, they start the search from scratch with a team built to contend now, and the window will be closing quickly when the new QB can play effectively. |

Off topic, and not being insensitive, does McCormick's 1.5 mill still count against our cap??? - bobmack13
I think it does until the season starts, so during the summer yes. During the summer you can be over the cap by like 5%, but once the season starts he goes to LRIT and does not count against cap.
I think.... |

Explain this then:
http://espn.go.com/nhl/attendance/_/year/2003
under 14k attendance average on the year, after a 17.2k-ish year before that. 2004 was recovering, 15,290.
I'm not sure what happened there, but to write it off as impossible might be a bit far. |

A big issue of the last 2 decades was after Butler there wasn't a good GM in Buffalo. With that you hired poor coaches, poor coaches means players go through multiple coordinators, multiple coordinators means multiple systems...there has been no time to jell, always learning a new system.
I honestly think JP Loseman could have been a good quarterback in the right system. He had a cannon for an arm but the Tom Clements system was very complex.
Yes the QB position has killed them, get a good QB and most of your problems are solved but I have not had faith in any of the GMs that have been here to be able to recognize what a godo QB looks like. |

As soon as the Sabres matched Vanek he sent an offer sheet to Penner. - dadeadhead
IMO the issue is saying they will be good 3 years later
and during that time let soupy walk and overpay crap core players
the second he matched the offer on vanek he should have done a 5 year 25 mil offer for soupy's extension

I gave up on them years ago.
I work at a bar and we're closed on Sundays.
That's how little they effect the business. - dadeadhead
I will be golfing sundays instead of watching the bills

I dont understand the closed on Sundays for the bar, in the clarence hollow the valley is closed on sundays and it is surrounded by golf courses.... so much money just out the window. |

They should of moved up for a qb before Sammy was here idk I thinks it's way too late we will miss the playoffs for sure if we trade TT and draft a rookie |

You can be 5% over during the summer but you must be under at a certain date prior to the season. A player can't go on LTIR until the season starts.
Something like if the season starts on 10/3 then on 10/2 all teams must be under. |

I wouldn't be so confident.
The scene was ugly back then when they F-up'd Drury and Briere. Losing Vanek would have been the tipping point and set the fan base squarely against the ownership...who like him or not rescued the team from being sold and moved. Say what you will about Galisono, but he was a care-taker until a solid owner could be found...and Pegula hadn't come forward then. So it was quite possible the ugliest scenario could have emerged...a mothballed FNC |

The "projection" sites have him at about 24m per and the "hometown" discount prive of 21m per.
Brock Oswieler contract screwed it up bad for us... he was never even a starter... has 11 TDs in his CAREER... and got a monster contract. Soon as that happened i knew we were (frank)ed. |

Hmmm, seems like stuff I posted in Boos's old blog
TLDR: no price is too high to ever pay for the RIGHT/Franchise QB. Having Watkins already makes it even more important to not be shy to overpay. |

Huh, that's pretty interesting, I can't see why they had such a dip in attendance that year other than not being such a good team. I'll concede your point. |

Rex Ryan took a rookie QB to the AFC Championship and then again the following year.
As much as I gave up on them, you're like a 12 year old girl with you emotional out burst on your parents when it comes to your sports teams.

Watched the first X Men movie last night. Hard to believe it came out in 2000. Wolverine is barely old enough to shave. |
