He was an offensive-minded D-man and risk-taker in AHL: big hits, lots of fights, but prone to the big gaffe, too. Simplified game and it got him up here as a 6. If he tried to be an offensive D-man at this level, he wouldn't have stuck.

I mean he's going to be 26 in a few months...I'm not banking on miraculous puck skill development. By MY eye test he has two modes when he has the puck: dump it in with a clapper around the boards, or when in zone, just throw it on net with his head down. He simply doesn't know what to do with it. He gets panicky with it on his stick and has trouble making a read. That's poise and hockey sense. He has redeemable qualities as I mentioned, and I try to be fair to him, but I see low offensive potential. His puck skills are one rung up on Schultz to me.

He's a guy who is going to have to battle for a job every year. But, yes, I could see him sticking around as the 6 (or 6/7 swingman) for a couple years.

I don't see an issue with him hanging around for another year as that in and out substitute d man. Not sure there's a starting role here next year with MDZ returning and Provorov most likely up with the Flyers. Heck, that means one of perhaps MacDonald or Schultz sits too, if a trade isn't worked out with someone over the summer.

Idk what your opinion on the matter is, but in my limited viewing (and you never know till they get here sometimes), I'm not sure Alt, who many peg as his replacement, is actually any better.
