Word, the thought just crossed my mind and I watched Tampa do away with Detroit last night. But again Tampa also has very good goaltending and other strengths. - Buffalo--Sabres
Scoring more than the other team is an important strength . Pretty much makes or breaks a team.

The fact that they lost a guy like Stamkos and hardly faltered just shows how well they were built. They were also only playing to Red Wings so I'm not jumping the gun yet. They get passed the Pens or the Caps and I'll jump on board completely.
Drouin has been an absolute monster for them, though. The kid looks like he's rested for half a season or something

the cool part about what buffalo has done--everything from the tear-down, multiple picks in the top two rounds, the two 2nd-overalls and the trades murray has made--is that it's not imperative they land a free agent of stamkos' caliber...would it be great? absolutely...would it be detrimental if they didn't?...nope
Not saying he wouldn't, I'm saying that if I know that I have x amount of years to at least win 1 and I get that one at least I know that I have done that. Then if I was the guy who wanted to do something long term like a building project in Toronto that might yield more but have a higher chance of failure I'd be more inclined.
Analogy for me is if I was trying to get a company started and I finally got one to succeed I'd be more inclined to invest in something a bit riskier than if I was still trying to get that first one off the ground. Obviously it's up to his personality. Like when they got Mario to come here "You can go other places and carry the torch or you can come here and light the torch". What does he want, the trophy or the potential for the legacy if he were to win in a place like Toronto?
Again, this is all speculation and now means nothing since he's out. July 1st will be fun but I'm ready for Babcock part 2 - Zschalberg
Problem is we don't know what the problem is. Does Stamkos want top $$$? Is his agent just trying to hustle top dollar out of Tampa? Does he really want to be closer to home? Is there some internal beef that we will never know about? Does he just want a change of scenery?
The thing is I can't relate at all to the mind of a world class athlete. Scrubs like John Scott and Matt Ellis, I feel that I can relate to their decision making because them like me, have limited choices and just want to do the best they can. Stamkos can do whatever the hell he wants.

He did seem to up his physical game later in the year. There were games where I swore he was Zads because he was even taking himself out of plays to make hits. I want him to find the balance.
Agreed on the ice time though. It's like when we had Myers and he was doing okay here. When we limited his minutes he was able to perform but Myers couldn't do #1 minutes. Another top defenseman could help in that situation. - Zschalberg
On one of the worst teams in the league over the past decade? Yes it was tough on him.
He was our #1 the last 2x we were a playoff team.
Ristolainen IMO will be better no doubt, but Myers didn't have the luxury of being 21 on an up and coming team, he was 21 on a team plummeting into a rebuild
So you're saying we're in a good position? - Buffalo--Sabres
yup...good enough to attract a free agent like stamkos while also being good enough to move forward briskly should he not come to buffalo...I could live with them adding STL forward David Backes and DET d-man Kyle Quincey, probably for a combined $10+M/yr., instead of dishing out $10M-per for stamkos

where does the lion eater fit with this team moving forward?
new player/ror-ror/new player/skunk
kane/eichel/(girgens?)
foligno, larsson, gionta
I think it comes down to moulson or girgens, one gets moved

the bolts are a really deep team
imagine if yzerman didn't f!ck up brett connolly and he was in their top 9 as well

the one good thing with ennis, ror, eichel, reinhart
you have a lot of flexibility for the wings with that many centers
and that's not including what happens if a stamkos or backes gets added - homiedclown
am liking the backes idea more and more...he's in a third-line center/1st pp-unit role with STL and could easily shift to that role in Buffalo with Eichel and ROR up-top...the sabres could drop that whole Larsson line down a notch and fill in the top-nine wings with the remaining players, and/or a prospect and/or another player from the outside
