it really has nothing to do with him being skunk-like...it's simply a matter of what's best moving forward...
you can make the argument that if the best player is available, you take him...yet, there is precedent for it not working...if you look back to all those years when the cap wasn't around, philly, Toronto, and the nyr were grabbing all the top-flight ufa's and they went without a cup
on the other side, if you believe that Eichel truly is a franchise center, that o'reilly is at worst one of the best two-way centers in the game, augmenting them by getting two players for stamkos' salary to fill top-six slots on this team is more practical...but, you could be missing out on one of the top players in the league
makes for a compelling argument |

I thought that if he got a ring he'd be more open to go to a team that might not be competetive for a bit. I don't know if it really lowers it because it's not exactly the same team minus Stamkos. It's not like they plugged in a career AHL guy and they're getting the same production. They put in a guy who was at one point considered one of the best prospects and now he's playing with a chip on his shoulder.
Biggest thing is it's Free Agency so it's going to be a bidding war and whoever gets him will overpay. The team that gets him will celebrate, the other teams will go "pff I didn't want to pay that much anyways". He'll produce for 4 years of his contract but probably never to the level of money that he'll get just because it'll be too high and then in 5 years all the other teams will start to say "Told you not to pay him" even though he was top 10 in goal scoring each of those years.
I just hope that we're the team to overpay. Or not. Either way we're okay. I just want to be okay faster - Zschalberg
Year 1 of Toews/Kane twin contracts and there are already people pissed off on the Hawks thread because they're both invisible so far this playoffs (until last night, but taking 5 games may be a bit late) |

Scoring is secondary when it comes to defense for me. His play in his own end is hard to watch. If we want that let's just put one of our wingers back there because it's practically the same. There's the spot for Moulson. |

I'll say that I think they're going to win the series now that it's going back to Chicago.
As soon as Stamkos has a 5 game goal drought or misses a game the boards will light up with people saying "I knew we shouldn't have signed him, I wanted player x instead!" People from the teams that swung and failed will talk about how they're glad they never got him and their GM was so smart for not paying enough. Fans from teams that never tried will start using it as a punchline. Then he'll score 40 goals and Toronto media will talk about how he didn't do enough (unless he goes to Toronto then it's "40 goals, the new 400?") And unless he wins a cup there will always be disagreement among fans about he's not worth it or it's the team or it's luck. And then if he wins one it'll be "Why didn't we win it at home" and "Ugh the parade is going to make parking BRUTAL"
Never going to please everyone so I've decided to please no one |

stamkos makes our top 6 a cup contending team for years, and he is the oldest at 26 years old
that's scary |

If you have Jack and Sam and ROR and they're not even the best players on your team, THAT'S scary. |

I get their point though, in a way. Their bigger issue isn't those two, it's the money they've had to pay others - the price of paying cup winning players.
That said, I imagine they'll be able to re-tool if they decide to, they've done it twice already I believe. |

10$ says they try and sell high on panarin
IMO Panarin's numbers drop significantly if he's not on a line with Patty Kane...but other teams will probably take that gamble |

I get that...and have absolutely no problem with that...but nobody on this board said he stunk...they may bring up blod clot, or possible chemistry issues, hell i'll bring up the possibility of ego's clashing and too many cooks, but nobody said stamkos stinks |

Maybe, no need to yet since he's still so cheap - even with the bonuses. Depending on how negotiations go with him next season I could definitely see your point and them getting a haul for him. |

Seabrook's raise kicking in next year, Anisimov too (getting bumped up to 4.5 per through 2021). Kruger going from 1.5M to 3 per. Not saying the salary itself is horrible (don't know his play much), but on that roster it's a lot. |
