I was reading one of those "X songs you never knew were written by Prince" articles and most of them were unsurprising, but the one that really got me is he wrote "Manic Monday" by the Bangles. And iTunes sold 85,000 "copies" of his greatest hits on Thursday alone. They even turned the lights on the Peace Bridge purple last night. I don't remember that kind of reaction when David Bowie died. Maybe because everyone knew he was sick?

I have a steaming hot take.

The NHL's problem isn't scoring, it's that for 82 games, it looks absolutely nothing like it does in the postseason. Shorten the season and make each game that much more important and the intensity in the regular season will be better

Really ? Calling Kiko a bum ?

McCoy is great when he never talks
You can find running backs anywere for less money now

You can say we gave away a HoF player to Eagles and that one still hurts us

Ah, went back and read it again, and saw the "still hurts us" at the end. My bad. I still don't think Peters is either, but he's closer than Kiko is/likely will be.

which in no way shape of form had anything to do with us getting McCoy which is what was being discussed...also not a chance Peters goes in the Hall of Fame...

You have to think about it for a second, but it does make sense. It just wasn't very clear. And he never actually named Peters, but he never said Kiko and HOF in the same sentence.

Then he needs to learn how to complete a thought, because McCoy was being discussed

That's it exactly. Not the scoring at all, but how (frank)ing boring the games are, but when there are goals and fights it adds a bit of intensity to an otherwise boring February game. I don't think shortening the season helps with that though. The 48 game season was just as boring as the ones before and after it were/are.

I agree, but going back and reading it carefully I see what he was talking about. Still should've said Peters, but this is an internet message board after all.

From what I remember the short season was a little better. I think I remember a couple people saying they liked the shorter condensed season but I could be wrong.

This Hawks game is like no game ever in the regular season. That's what has to change IMO. Half the goals are deflections, rebounds etc, which aren't that exciting.

At the beginning of the season, if there was one single person that thought that Evander Kane would score 35 points this year, which didn't include him missing half the season, I'd he shocked.

My issue isn't with Kane, I came around on him, and expect him to be better/produce more going forward. However what the expectations were going into the year aren't really close to what actually happened.

Most people thought we would get 25-30 goals, 50+ points, and a future winger for Jack Eichel. Anyone denying that was the expectations are just flat out lying or backtracking.

So this is and has been my question, if that's what was expected, how is him falling so short of that having a good season?

Sure, he's a good player, and he's not overpaid. I just don't feel the need to sugarcoat what he did by mentioning pace, or how many goal posts he hit. He had an underwhelming year, with a personal slip up, but ended playing his best hockey. Nothing more

It is not all about the numbers, except to people who always look it that way. The guy is the power, skilled forward this team has needed. He is the teams best forechecker, one of if not the teams best PKers, is a tough beast and gives others space with his size and aggressive style of play and is a top 6 winger, something the Sabres are lacking. I hope he works on the accuracy of his shot which frustrates me but he plays with more energy than anyone on the team and that will be invaluable when he amps it up come playoff time.

Wow...

Killing a penalty or not that is not the time to let PK play with the puck behind the net

I agree with all of this, especially his PK/forechecking.

I just am not going to pretend that he had a really good year. He played some of the most minutes any NHL forward did, and only manged 35 points. That's a good year for Steve Ott, not Kane. He's better than that

I don't think you have enough question marks.

He has battled injuries. He is not a HOFer. McCoy has a better chance of being a HOFer than Peters.

The Hawks are like New England. Every year people say it's the year they are vulnerable, yet they just keep winning. (I know they still need 1 more)

You don't agree that he's a good forechecker? I'm not sure what games you were watching but to each his own. He als killed was one of the Sabres primary Pkers and with his speed, aggressiveness, and athletic ability was a strong a one. His 2nd half of the season was very strong offensively. Now if he can bury more shots he could easily get 30. He is a good player to have.
