The last D we picked in the first round was Bourdon (RIP) and we should have taken Kopitar obviously. He was not looking like anything more than a 5 or 6 D. If we draft 6th I'd be ok with selecting a D 6th and 33rd
- CanuckDon

I was on the D with our first wagon, but after thinking way too much about it lately I feel like we would be much better served taking a fwd (as we still lack high end talent). None of the Dmen in this draft are Ekblad / Hedman Caliber. Id like to see this...

1st - one of Matthews / Laine / Tkachuk with our 1st.
2nd - Lucas Johansen
3rd - Ty Ronning
Defense with remained of picks

I know this isn't going to be agreed with, but (frank) Ronning. We don't need undersized wingers, we've got those.

I hope you remember when one of these D is a top-30 talent.

I still stand by anyone giving me their top 20 d-men and we will see how many are picked in the 1, 2nd and beyond.

Weber and Josi were second rounders, that leaves 18 more.

Youre probably right...Benning could find a gem of a Dman in the third I bet too...

Lucas Johansen looks like a stud, and is a local boy. Johnny Hockey has changed my mind a bit on the small skilled guys, but then I remember Jordan Schroeder and realized Gaudreau is the exception.

Take him. He is like his dad. Good with puck battles

Awful. Similar to Patrick White, Shink, Gaunce, CoHo... need I go on? I mean we've seen so many busts at forward, I'm a little shocked you guys don't want to see more d picks. I think either way JB is the guy to do it, but how many times do we have to see it?

Duncan Keith and PK Subban we're second rounders...

There have been alot of top ten D picks that have been nothing more than 3rd pairing guys...

I was high on Chychrun, and it were an Ekblad / Hedman type stud in the top 5 I'd be all for it. It just seems like these guys are all a bit lackluster and we still lack high end FWD talent.

We will get a very solid D prospect at 33rd...guaranteed Benning snags a good one

We've picked 10 d-men out of 21 picks in the last 3 years. I think they know the problem and have been taking more d-men than usual.

He was actually pretty impressive in the top prospects game. Might be a better pick with an early 4th but I bet hes gone by then. Would be nice to aquire another 3rd in a trade and use it on him.

That's the thing our 3rd is 63, almost still a second. I'd be surprised if Ronning was the BPA

I agree, now I want to see them picked higher, as the higher rounds have statistically higher chance at yielding a top-2 player

A few times on 1040 the Giants coach was giving him high praise.

Tree is the only D prospect we need. Pair him with Subbans feelings and he will be unstoppable

I think their plan is to develop the ones we have.

I (frank)ing hope that's not the plan. I don't know what Brisbois is( a long-term project it seems), but only one of those guys looks like a potential top-4 d-man to me. Maybe one other cracks the lineup in Larsen next year as a 6-7. I haven't been the least bit impressed by Pedan. Don't get me wrong, I hope a couple of these guys work out, but none of them look to have much of an upside.

Tree and Hutton don't look like top 4 D? I also have high hopes for Brisbois

Hopefully Subban, like Drouin, will leave his feelings in the AHL
I really hope I'm wrong about Subban, right now I see Weber (not the good one, the one we already had and hopefully no longer will have).

Hutton is still a maybe for me. I know he's Jesus on this board but to me he's statistically the second worst defensive d-man on the team (Behind Bart who is also awful), and that means no top-4.
