Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: Rangers & Blackhawks Bring Back Memories, Comets, U18s Canucks fans took a walk down memory lane on Saturday as Alain Vigneault's New York Rangers were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs while the Chicago Blackhawks stormed back to force Game 7 in their series against the St. Louis Blues.

Look at how the Seahawks draft/develop, unlike most other NFL teams. Albeit a different sport they recruit physical attributes, athleticism and most importantly a desire or chip on their shoulder, maybe a bit like Tryamkin who was drafted in the later rounds

The Seahawks trades for Harvin & Graham stunk. They find value in the mid/later rounds which I think JB has the talent to do as well. Do you really want to discuss his FA signings?

Bad trades are not the same as good trades. JeffCarter Brent Burns good trades Derek Roy , Booth Carney bad trades

Bennings FA signings

Miller : one of Canucks best players last year

Vrbata : 31 goals first year. 2 year deal . Things went south when he was pulled off the top line for no explainable reason

Bartowski : second highest goal production on D at 1.75 per year one year deal.

I don't see any horrible UFA pick ups

Funny...just as a general statement, not directed at anyone, but, some portray things as they never work out, or, they always work out. It's just never like that, you win some you lose some.

Nothing is 100% fool-proof, you've just gotta limit your "swing and miss" moments in professional sports as a GM.

That's not a bad deal. He played 2 years in the NHL for a second round pick ( stop gap)

How many second round picks over the last decade for Canucks played more that were selected from Gillis?

Exactly, remember though we are still recovering from the last GM's gaffes, so it's understandable to be a bit concerned as we are paying the piper.

In two years Benning has fixed a lot.

Truthfully I think Benning comes off as a knucklehead but he's probably the best GM the Canucks have had in a long while. I say that because I believe you build teams primarily thru the draft, this appears to be his bread and butter.

He's gonna have his misses, they all do, but I'm excited for this draft to see what transpires.

He walked into a sh!tshow. Holes on the team , useless core (Torts said it should have been changed years ago) and no grit. No farm system.

He is fixing the problems quietly and effectively.

Yes I agree, he inherited a bit of a mess and he's done well in his 23 months on the job. I just sincerely hope he doesn't overpay to get a UFA to sign onto a rebuilding team in Vancouver.

No UFA worth his weight in gold is gonna sign in Vancouver to lose. Unless it's his hometown

He hasn't in the past overpaid for UFAs , fans can say what they want about Miller but he was one of our top players last year.

Vrbata was 2 year 5 mil , he scored 31 the first year and then was pulled from the first line.

Bartowski one year deal 1.75 , second highest goal production on the team

Some fans here have said they hope he doesn't overpay. JB doesn't have a history of overpaying UFAs .

Benning has done a pretty good job , van fans are impatient . Takes years to develop a good team .
