Not sure who traded Weise. Diaz didn't really make an impact. Traded for a 5th round pick.
I'm complimenting Habs management. Not dumping on JB. I just want JB and crew to manage their minor talents, expiring contracts, and aging players into future assets.
Too much to ask? - bloatedmosquito
It was Gillis who screwed up that asset. Let's just blame Benning for Corrado. |

I don't think it's as bad as it's made out to be, like you're doing now. A lot of things have worked out in their favor. It's only because they haven't won a Cup it seems worse than it is.
Richard Brodeur for a 5th from the Islanders
The Cinderella run in 82.
The Patrick Sundstrom trade for Kirk McLean & Greg Adams.
Sneaking Bure out of the draft.
Trading Stojanov for Naslund.
Linden for Bertuzzi, McCabe & Ruutu.
Burke trading McCabe and 1st for the second pick in 99.
The Quinn trade with St. Louis to get all those guys.
Luongo for a washed up Bertuzzi.
White & Rahimi for Ehrhoff.
Etc. Etc. - LeftCoaster
But Cam Neely??? |

Lucic doesn't score as much as Eiksson & is slower & will cost too much.
Also i don't see him playing as long as most overall.
I'll pass on Lucic.
Martin is a much cheaper option or sign Backes for 3yrs is better IMO
If we get Mathews by luck then Backes is not a target but if we get 2-3OA then maybe it makes sense.
Also no probs if we don't sign a UFA at a price we r ok with & keep cap flexibility. - Nighthawk
Sure, but Erikson and Lucic are discussed as there is some likelihood of them signing in Vancouver (history with Sedins or East Van connection).
It's not like we're gonna have a good chance of signing every viable UFA. |

I didn't take it as dumping. You were just pointing out our history was not illustrious . |

They need to move one those NY teams.
Makes ZERO sense having 3 teams within 25 miles from one another.

you win some, lose some.
i'm sure every team could point to trades wins and losses and every team has unearthed good draft picks and missed on others.

Actually that's Gillis' fault as well, if he didn't draft Hutton Corrado would never have been put on waivers. Gillis has wrecked this team for generations.

ah. missed this post. This is what i'm saying, plenty of good moves in Canucks history, plenty of bad. I'm sure every team could make similar lists.

Yes, yes. But the point here, and always will be, improving your team now or in the future to hopefully win a cup. You can parade all the great trades the canucks have made but the results are the same. Season after season. Regime after regime. Disappointment.
So going forward through this rebuild I'm hoping JB can make those minor moves that improves our team. If he can, it sure will speed up this process.

Minor moves we need (frank)ing home runs.
Edit: I'm hoping Philip Larsen will be a surprise. |

The biggest issue in the history of the club is they never built a solid core thru the draft, bar none! The minor moves have to follow the bigger moves.
Bennings been on the job 23 months, he's never really had an opportunity to trade middling assets. He purged problem-child Kassian, but what opportunity has he had to trade an aging player? |

To be honest bazz I'm getting tired of the Gillis vs JB horsepoop. I didn't blame JB for the Weise trade. Never connected the two. Only connection I made was hoping JB can turn our minor assets into future assets like the Habs demonstrated.
Why does everyone immediately go to defending JB? It's weird.

The only way we get home runs is if we finish bottom 3 in the league. Otherwise got to rely on canuck management to find gems in the rough and develop the hell out of them.
I don't think the canucks have the assets to trade for top players. And I hope they don't trade 1st so draft it is. |
