To be honest bazz I'm getting tired of the Gillis vs JB horsepoop. I didn't blame JB for the Weise trade. Never connected the two. Only connection I made was hoping JB can turn our minor assets into future assets like the Habs demonstrated.
Why does everyone immediately go to defending JB? It's weird. - bloatedmosquito

Etem for Jensen. Jensen was never part of the plan. It will get easier to see better deals once we get rid of the rest of the old guys. |

The biggest issue in the history of the club is they never built a solid core thru the draft, bar none! The minor moves have to follow the bigger moves.
Bennings been on the job 23 months, he's never really had an opportunity to trade middling assets. He purged problem-child Kassian, but what opportunity has he had to trade an aging player? - LeftCoaster
I know. It's early in JB tenure that is why I said I'm hoping JB can be consistent at this through this rebuild. No criticism. Just being hopeful this rebuild is shorter than I expect it's going to be. If he can turn this pile of poop roster into something that can challenge for the cup then I will gladly sacrifice you at the alter of Benning. |

I'm far from his biggest cheerleader! I just think he's a great draftist. Outwardly he comes across as such a knucklehead but I think he knows his drafting...at least I'm hoping and praying. |

It was Gillis who screwed up that asset. Let's just blame Benning for Corrado. - bazz
Torts chased Weise out. He hated him. Walked in to the dressing room said "you were traded"... didnt say who, no "good luck". Just walked out of the room.
Bloated was just using MTL making the most out of Weise as an example. The point wasn't who screwed it up. |

As much as i like you Steaming, I will never hate on Lou. He was a team player and a great goalie for this club during his tenure here. - vancity787

Actually that's Gillis' fault as well, if he didn't draft Hutton Corrado would never have been put on waivers. Gillis has wrecked this team for generations.
The 6 degrees of Mike Gillis. - A_SteamingLombardi
Missed that bit of brilliance. Very clear why I'm not a GM. |

I'd like to see JB turn some of the old guys into something serviceable. That’s why I was disappointed that we didn’t get anything for Hamhuis. Not JB's fault at all. Just disappointed the market wasn't better. That's when luck has a lot to do with success. |

We need ourselves a John Tavares! Hopefully we get the first pick and draft Matthews, that's a major building block on the checklist. |

I don't see a lot of defending JB. Mostly putting down the guy. This site is a bit better than the media, but still |

He's more than a draftist. He knows how to build a team. Sutter is a very smart move. He knew when he traded for him he was locking him up for years.
As much as people don't like Dorsett , Rangers had him cover Crosby in the playoffs.
Even the lesser trades served their need as stop gaps. |

He's moved plenty of minor assets (surprisingly) and i'm sure he's tried to move more, but hasn't found a dance partner.
Etem, Sven are examples of turning nothing into something.
Clendening and Vey are arguably misses.
That's how it goes in my opinion. You win some, you lose some.
What i like about JB is that he's doing what we've all biatched about for years...he's changing things. He's handcuffed by long term contracts and NTC's, but he's doing what he can and it'll take some time and some luck.
Some people act like trades are just waiting there to happen all the time...or that there is a magic formula for building a cup winning team.
It is sports, it is built around a zillion factors, many of which can't be planned for. |

He's outwardly said its their intention to draft and develop the next core, Sutter IMO is a stop-gap player. |

Imagine how frustrating it must be for JB trying to trade vets.
Kesler gives a list of 2 teams,,, only 1 interested and it's in our division. No negotiating leverage.
Beiksa wanted a west coast team... SJ doubled back on Jim. Off to the Ducks he goes... same division. No negotiating leverage.
Hamhuis list left Jim nothing to work with. He passed on the 3rd rounders being offered at the last minute.
edit: then there is Vrbada who deliberately complicated his list so he would unlikely be traded. |
