That's where most people seem to have gone, I'm not big on Dubois and would much rather see a rising D in the tube than another winger. I get where people are coming from, but I'm of the opinion that people like Bob Mackenzie know a lot better than me and so I will be going with him on this one.

How dare you go with Bob instead of me on this

What do you guys think of Filip Berglund? He's hard to get reports on. He seems like a 2nd or 3rd round sleeper pick possibly.

Not sure, very little information on him. Big, shoots right and ranked 33 by central scouting. It's hard to tell with the kids that play in junior Euro leagues.

I don't think Benning takes Chychrun at 6. He's a guy that does his homework
- VANTEL

Agreed... The games I've seen him I wasnt impressed.. I think it's Juolevi at 6

I like Erikson as well.
But i'd take Lucic for what he brings too (size, scoring, bit younger, etc). If the price is right.

- dbot

Lucic doesn't score as much as Eiksson & is slower & will cost too much.
Also i don't see him playing as long as most overall.
I'll pass on Lucic.
Martin is a much cheaper option or sign Backes for 3yrs is better IMO
If we get Mathews by luck then Backes is not a target but if we get 2-3OA then maybe it makes sense.
Also no probs if we don't sign a UFA at a price we r ok with & keep cap flexibility.

I'd prefer Brouwer before Lucic at a sane contract.

Relax lol
Everyone knows the top 3 r a no brainer.
More fun discussing options if we fall to 4-6 or trade down if not a top 3.
Personally IMO no nut D r in this draft hence no rush as a top 6 pick.

Funny...just as a general statement, not directed at anyone, but, some portray things as they never work out, or, they always work out. It's just never like that, you win some you lose some.

Nothing is 100% fool-proof, you've just gotta limit your "swing and miss" moments in professional sports as a GM.

- LeftCoaster

Yes, but the canucks seem to swing and miss more than usual.

Just reading JJ's blog and he sure gives Weise some love. The one thing that stands out for me is how Montreal made out on Weise trades. They traded Raphael Diaz for Weise. Got a hell of a lot out of Weise and then traded for Phillip Danault who is a good prospect.

That's more than limiting your misses. It's not earth shattering in significance or a huge "win" but it does show smart asset management.

I hope JB can demonstrate those types of smart (albeit minor) moves on a more regular basis.

Not sure who traded Weise. Diaz didn't really make an impact. Traded for a 5th round pick.

I'm complimenting Habs management. Not dumping on JB. I just want JB and crew to manage their minor talents, expiring contracts, and aging players into future assets.

Too much to ask?

I don't think it's as bad as it's made out to be, like you're doing now. A lot of things have worked out in their favor. It's only because they haven't won a Cup it seems worse than it is.

Richard Brodeur for a 5th from the Islanders
The Cinderella run in 82.
The Patrick Sundstrom trade for Kirk McLean & Greg Adams.
Sneaking Bure out of the draft.
Trading Stojanov for Naslund.
Linden for Bertuzzi, McCabe & Ruutu.
Burke trading McCabe and 1st for the second pick in 99.
The Quinn trade with St. Louis to get all those guys.
Luongo for a washed up Bertuzzi.
White & Rahimi for Ehrhoff.
Lumme from Montreal for a 2nd.

Etc. Etc.

How did Chychrun look in that horrible loss today? I only saw the last 4 min.

- boonerbuck

Yep, B-Mac is guessing like everyone else. Call JB what you like, this draft is his real opportunity to shine. Pete Chiarelli is missing this guy big time. Good luck on Saturday, the rest I'm not concerned with.
