I'm actually excited to see what happens at the draft - johndewar
I guess it is a possibility the Flyers could trade up. Who knows. They will be drafting 17 or 18, I'd like to see them take a forward with some size if possible. |

I think I know what people will say but I'll ask:
Since both Mason and Neuvirth are on last year of deals next season is there a goalie competition or is Mason just de facto number 1? - J35Bacher
Probably plays out the same way as last year. Mason might be 1A, but they will ride whoever is hot or not injured |

Streit's not tradeable. Flyers have to eat his contract. - Pixote Andolini
Sorry...but that is false |

So if these guys are all better then what's your excuse for not making the playoffs? - J35Bacher
Theyre 19, 20 and 21 years old....The Pens didn't make the playoffs in Sids first year...
We need one winger for Eichel and ready to roll.....
Sorry that a rookie 20 year old and a rookie 19 year old needed to learn..
but hey...Giroux is getting better every day...next year...TWO points!! |

Excellent question. Won't be any way to keep both beyond next season. Hope the Flyers make the right choice. - PLindbergh31
Neuvy is younger, right? I'd have an open competition next season and unless Mason is head and shoulders above Neuvy, I'm going with Neuvy for the future (assuming he performs similarly next season to his work this season). |

First off, I didn't expect this team to make the playoffs. Playing relevant games in late March, yes, but a bubble team at best. Once they made it, all I wanted was one win, and they won two, so my expectations were exceeded.
One great thing was the difference in Ghost's play from games 1-3 to games 4-6. At first, he seemed a but timid, afraid to make a mistake, and, apart from his game 1 gaffe, he was ineffective. In the last 3 games, he seemed a lot calmer, and was playing like himself, which is to say he was playing with the edge that makes him effective: not afraid to take chances and taking more control of the break-outs.
However, our stars were shut down which is obviously disturbing. Giroux and Voracek both looked injured, as they weren't especially sharp, and Giroux seemed to be laboring up and down the ice. Voracek's skating was okay, but his puck control was nowhere to be found. Simmonds and Schenn played very well (especially Schenn), but Washington keyed on that top line and the Flyers had no answers for it. Overall though, with the defense we have and the lack of secondary scoring, going to 6 games with the top seed and being a 1 goal swing away from Game 7 is nothing to be ashamed of.
For the people wanting more size: Washington was the top seed, but right now, Pittsburgh has been the best team in the East. And they're doing it without a ton of size. Aside from Malkin, they don't have much size in their top-6 or even top-9. They have skill, getting contributions from guys like Rust, Sheary, and Hagelin. Aside from goading Simmonds into a fight, what impact did first rounder Tom Wilson have in the series other than to get stoned with 2 great scoring chances and take a stupid penalty in game 2? If all things are equal, size is nice, but I'll take skill over size all day. - jmatchett383
I agree. But if you don't have size then you need speed which they have. Kind of why I worry a little about Cousins, just because he isn't biggest and his speed is slow.
I either want more speed or size. |

I had my basement steps carpeted by my buddy on Friday. He said he actually did work at Snider's compound a few times. At the entrance, Snider has, more or less, a fan shop. Snider met the guys in person, shook their hands, and told them to help themselves to some stuff up front when they left. Said he was the nicest customer he ever had.
Edit: Also said Mike Lieberthal was the biggest douche customer he ever had. |

has cousins surpassed laughton in your mind for this role? - stayinthefnnet
since we agree on the phillies...laughton has more tools, but needs to put them together at the NHL level. If and when he does...he will move ahead of Cousins. Laughton could end up on the wing too, but hopefully Laughton comes back next season much more prepared to take over 3C |

While I agree with you to a degree, I think the extra desire for size over skill is because most of our offensive prospects that will be coming up lack size. even Laughton and Cousins aren't the biggest guys.

But you said they are better? Age then shouldn't be the only thing keeping them from the playoffs.
Also you have leaders like O'reilly, Kane, Bogosian as you stated.
Yes the Sabres have some good young players. So do the Flyers.
One team tanked. The other tries to win while also rebuilding for the future.
I am glad Hextall allowed this to play out instead of trading everyone. |

Florida just ended the playoffs with the same record as the Flyers. Yeah, they are so much further ahead with all of those lottery picks. Pittsburgh, Chicago, Tampa, you get lucky when you have the best pick and there is a game changer to select. That's not the case every year.
Dallas has made a good amount of trades to get where they are. They aren't built off of all of their own picks.
I'll tell you what, when Buffalo is a competitive team again and at the same time the Flyers are bottom feeders, come let me know and I will tell you you were right. |

I agree with this, to a degree. But if you have enough skill (speed is a skill), you always have a chance to become a contributor. However, simply being big doesn't mean you'll be any good, simply that you'll be big. Preferably, you get both, but just being big in itself isn't worth a damn unless you can use that size along with skill. |

Washington has tremendous depth. And when the Flyer's top line is not performing well or producing, its an uphill battle for the team to win a game. Had it not been for Neuvirth, this series would have been over in 4 games.

Probably. He definitely stole Game 5. I actually thought the Flyers were the better team in Game 1. That is why the 2 wins were satisfying because Washington obviously is a better team. |

That's the thing.
I want size with skill.
Jody Shelly was big just not skilled.
A guy like Pat Maroon would interest me if he was an UFA. Has skill and is big.
Also why a guy like Martel intrigues me from the phantoms because he has skill and elite speed. |
