I want them to at least try to ice a competitive roster and that will require a few UFA's. If they still suck I'll continue to support them. I won't support intentional tanking. I find it hilarious that some on here are suggesting not to use the cap space. They will be the first posters to call Aquilini a cheap (frank) of that happens - CanuckDon
There could be several situations that could come about that the team uses to be competitive, how about making a trade that could bring in secondary scoring, bringing in Lucic will only further the tank situation.
Stamkos I'm dead against paying 10-12m for 64pts, he is 4 years removed from 90+ pt seasons, but the up side on him is greater than Lucic.
Eriksson would be fine but the worry would be his concussion history, although he made it through 82 games last year.
Lucic overrated, undisciplined, slowing down, and not worth spending 6mil a year on...my hope is he resigns in LA and drags that franchise into the gutter. |

Stamkos will be back next year. I suspect he will rebound to a PPG mark. He isn't signing here anyways. People used to worry about Crosbys concussions as well. That wouldn't scare me off on Eriksson. Agree on Lucic. A trade is certainly an option but I don't want to lose any of our young players and we have nothing else of value to offer (that doesn't own a NTC) |

Crosby isn't getting concussed cuz of the NHLPA internal memo letting players know that the salary cap and NHL revenues depend on guys like him... |

Eriksson & Ladd once Burrows is gone. Non handcuff deals. |

How to rebuild this roster is the most relevant conversation we will have this summer (IMO). The draft should provide some clarity on direction but there are obviously different opinions so it should be good for a debate or two. - bloatedmosquito
Oh I agree, I'm not a fan of over paying UFA's, but there will be numerous conversations on options and several differing opinions, similar to last summer |

While those additions make the team more competitive, it would at most move the team into Minnesota Wild territory. That team has looked dangerous sometimes and mediocre at others. They are a mix of big contracts, vets and some up and coming young players that have made the playoffs like 4 years in a row without ever being a legitimate threat to winning more than 1 round. Its going to come crashing down on them soon enough - WhiteLie
To me this is an excellent comparison of what would happen |

I think the top 3 will all play in the NHL next year. Good thing we don't have Shink anymore so there is no roadblock for our new prospects |

THIS.
Minnesota is a mess.
Those contracts are brutal.
They wanted to make a splash...
They are now enjoying the fruits of drowning in the back splash. |

What you need to do is be patient, wait for some character ufa's to get desperate, then sign them for 1 year. Bennington trades them off at the trade deadline for picks! if he can make some trades next year at the tdl! |

Flagged. We need our precious cap space |

Benning has signed one UFA for 3 years , one for two years, and one for one year. Both him and Linden have come out and said they have targeted a few reasonably priced UFAs .
Worry much? |

I think one UFA that will be back is Bart. 27 years old played 80 games last year. Cheap , they know him . |

Not sure who you are directing your comment to, I don't worry about much, I'm not running the team. But I get to state my opinions like everyone else...(frank) Lucic. Stamkos is not worth 10-12 mil.
And please define reasonably priced UFA's. |

We will be high on the waiver wire next year so when players like Landon Feraro drop we will have third shot at them |

Comments directed at all those freaking out about long term 5-6 year contracts.
Reasonably priced example. Bartowski 2 years@ 1.5 per.
Bad contract Bartowski 4 years @3.2 per |

Benning is the only GM in the league that doesn't understand this concept.

Benning hasn't signed a UFA longer that 3 years. He believes in building through the system.
We need a top 6 but we have Boeser next year most likely , and this years pick will probably be NHL ready, plus we have to find spots for JV and JM soon. I don't see him looking long term at UFAs.
As far as LUcic, Benning turned away once before from his contract, I don't see him going after him long term . |

How many GM's successfully unloaded UFAs that had been signed for one year at last years deadline? Hint. Not many |
