The Rangers are going to overpay for one of Milan Lucic, Andrew Shaw or David Backes. - tomburton99
Probably...and none of them will have any success. Lucic isn't going to score any more than Kreider but will cost 2-3x as much. Shaw and Backes won't have linemates with enough skill to work the zone and create chances for them.
And I'm the crazy one for wanting this thing to get blown up? Does the world you live in without a salary cap, have gold plated poopers and rose pedals falling at your feet? - tomburton99
I just want this team to have an identity. I don't care what it is. Speed. Grit. Whatever.
This speed team without speed, dump and chase without a solid forecheck, rely on Hank without any consistent D made this season painful to watch.
Year before last someone said going into the deadline: "Forget grit. We are a speed team. Let's double down on it and be good at that." I don't remember who said it but they were right.

I think most people here would agree that Hagelin's current contract is an overpayment for what he brings and that he doesn't really fit with how the rest of the contracts on our books are structured, but in hindsight I think his loss has a much bigger impact on our identity than originally thought.
He wasn't the biggest point producer by any means but he really pushed the pace and set the benchmark for how fast everyone on our team needed to be playing.
I'll do it now. Tell me what the cap hits are for Miller, Mcilrath, Kreider, Hayes an other RD and a 7th D? - tomburton99
I'll need to have their current hits to tell you exact numbers but what I kind of remember doing was McIlrath, Hayes, and Kreider get 10% raises. Miller gets a bridge deal between what Hagelin and Kreider got as his numbers were better than Hagelins but not as good as Kreider's so I think $2.4M. 7th D I added in on veterans minimum and same for 13th F. Glass in the minors.

I agree 100%. Once they dealt Hagelin away, the fastest player on the team, the speed identity went out the window.
The Rangers would have 1.95 million to fill 3 roster spots in RangerDangers roster. 3rd line LW, 4th line RW and 7th D all empty. So it's pretty much impossible.

they need to go into next season with 1.95 mil in cap space
this year showed they can't be capped out, they need $$$ to make callups when there are injuries
So it's a little bit more of a tighter squeeze than I remember it being. But the max the cap can be is actually $74.5M and the one I did there is at $74M, so that could free up another 500k. And then 100k here and there could shave off a 400-800k more if you skimp each deal a bit more and maybe Stammer signs for 11M instead of 11.5M.

The Rangers have enough Soft players. We dont need twins who use their faces as punching bags when times get tough. I mean for chrissakes, defend yourself!!!

Rocky was similar. Let his opponent beat his head in until they had nothing left in the tank
Kreider is a RFA. I don't see him getting more than Stepan or any other recent Ranger bridge contract.
Frankly, I think he has maxed out his potential and isn't worth a penny over $3M. Hagelin's UFA $4M deal is an overpayment and he provides a lot more than Kreider away from the puck while Kreider doesn't exactly provide a ton more with it.

Agreed, you should trade him to us for Stephen Gionta so you can maximize your cap savings.
