The league seems to want it both ways. They want to make a TV spectacle of the draft for ratings, but they also want to take a stance against "tanking." Thus you get this kind of in the middle draft lotto event where they don't go all out, but they still make an event out of it.

If they wanted to make more of an impact, they should do it at a different time. An intermission of a game doesn't give much time.

A better event would be to have interviews with some of the team reps. Though honestly...that would probably get boring too.

If they continue this 1-3 lottery going forward, they need to eliminate the usual way of opening envelopes and just jump to who the #3 pick is, perhaps a short interview with that team, then on to 2, etc.

This is why i fear they wont release the real lottery number combinations for teams this year. When i released the lottery simulator using them, it both created insane hype around the actual event, AND shamed them for how boring they are.

Two things they don't want. So I don't think I'll get them this year.

I'm really upset how they undermined the power of Dorne by taking down the empire within 5 minutes. (frank) THE SANDSNAKES!!!!

Personally... I think the odds of each team winning should remain the same, but that every pick (1-14) should be a part of the lotto. That would keep nearly half of the league's fanbase tuned in out of anticipation to see where their favorite teams would be selecting in the next draft. As it stands right now, nearly 2/3 of the teams eligible for the lotto have such minimal odds that the excitement is over too quickly.

I would like to see the lottery switched to this format:

1st pick is a lotter among the bottom five teams. All these teams should be in a full rebuild and their fan base is most likely going through some suffering, so they need the most help.

2nd pick overall is a lottery of teams 1-10. You'll have the other four remaining bottom feeders and five other teams in a further along point of their rebuild. Even the Sabres at #8 are far enough along on their rebuild where I can say that maybe we don't deserve to be in the running for #1. I don't think that the teams 11-15 should have a shot at picks 1 & 2 they should have worked harder to make the playoffs, not be reward with the 1st overall for missing the playoffs by a point.

3rd pick overall, should be for all remaining non playoff teams, a team like Boston should have a crack at this spot, not #1 overall
