I say give every NHL GM who missed the playoffs a paint ball gun and last man standing gets 1st overall. Set them free in a NHL arena.
Or better yet don't give them one, one fan from every team that didn't make the playoffs gets one and they start picking off GM's. Edmonton would be everyone's initial target.
Not sure why the NHL GM's didn't put in a "5-year rule" or something to that effect - re: a team can only get the 1st pick overall within a 5-year time period. Katz must have some nasty pics of Bettman and Daly doing something nasty together....
The league seems to want it both ways. They want to make a TV spectacle of the draft for ratings, but they also want to take a stance against "tanking." Thus you get this kind of in the middle draft lotto event where they don't go all out, but they still make an event out of it.

Because it is not needed. This has never happened in the history of any sport before, and most likely wont happen ever again.
