Regardless of whether Schneider was nominated or not, that trophy was Holtby's from mid way in the year. I'm not too saddened by the snub.

absolutely snubbed. What has Quick done that Crawford hasn't? Schneider has the same numbers but with an AHL roster. for shame.

Our chances at a lotto pick aren't all that terrible. Here are the percentages from NHL.com. These are just for the 1st drawing, so for the following 2, our odds will most likely go up.

Toronto Maple Leafs 20.0%
Edmonton Oilers 13.5%
Vancouver Canucks 11.5%
Columbus Blue Jackets 9.5%
Calgary Flames 8.5%
Winnipeg Jets 7.5%
Arizona Coyotes 6.5%
Buffalo Sabres 6.0%
Montreal Canadiens 5.0%
Colorado Avalanche 3.5%
New Jersey Devils 3.0%
Ottawa Senators 2.5%
Carolina Hurricanes 2.0%
Boston Bruins 1.0%

There isn't really a great numerical difference between us at 3% and 4th overall Jackets at 9.5%. What a huge score it'll be if we win one of the 3 drawings.

Here's the math for the highest probabilities.
If Toronto were to pick first and Edmonton second, we'd have the odds of 3% for first overall, 3.75% for second overall and 4.5% for third overall. So that means that collectively we have an 11,9% probability to go up in the draft with three draws and if anyone else asides from Edmonton or Toronto pick 1 and 2 then the probability goes down.

Pretty laughable idea that Quick was made a finalist over Schneider, but bound to happen while NJD is sitting near the bottom of the standings and everyone keeps watching LAK to see if they can get back to winning cups.

Schneider with better sv pct and GAA playing behind the 29th ranked possession team in the NHL while Quick played behind the #1 possession team in the NHL this year

I think had the voting been an NHL writers choice, they would have gotten it right. Problem is the NHL GMs dont scout rebuilding teams much or watch a lot of their games, especially the players who arent available like Schneider.

A team like the Kings get more attention from GMs not only because Lombardi has shuffled the deck more than a casino dealer in recent years regarding trades, but also because the GMs are keeping an eye on evaluating the Kings as to what to be worried about as a potential cup contender and how they need to size up against them. Quick got a reputation vote from too many GMs here

holy cow I didn't realize the difference was this huge.

Schneider had an excellent year, but he was a sub .500 goalie on a non playoff team. excellent numbers but to overcome losing record/no playoffs, a goalie has to have done something to completely separate himself from the pack, like a crazy save % or 9 shutouts or something like that. Schneider's numbers don't do that. so people look at Schneider's numbers, see them in the same realm as Bishop/Holtby and then make the decision from there.

goalies don't score the goals. 184 goals for vs. 225! We only allowed 13 more goals total as a team, and most of those were when Kinkaid got blown out, so that's why Schneider didn't win as many games as Quick.. because of events happening at the opposite end of the ice!

Schneider with a GAA of 2.15, Quick was 2.22. Quick played 10 more games, but allowed 149 vs. Schneider's 122, so I'll defer to GAA here. Schneider's sv% .924, vs. Quick's .918. Like previously mentioned, Schneider did this with the 29th best possession team.. vs. Quick's 1st best lol. Goalies stop pucks, not score them, so wins shouldn't weigh heavy in deciding a vezina candidate. silly.

Fine, and we'll just ignore his .886 save percentage and 3.04 GAA in the playoffs this year but I bet he got all the high-danger shots... Besides next to Queenie's .867% and 4.39 GAA he looks great.
- Queenie_5_hole

5 of his goals against came on the Power Play against the 3rd best PP team in the league. If you look at his even strength #s, he had a .908 SV% and a 2.00 GAA.

Ok. Give him the trophy.

Kidding aside I realize the playoff sample isn't a good indicator. Just pointing out the stats are really close. Schneider is playing on a weak team.

This Caps/Pens series looks like its going to be something to behold. Not a fan of either team, at all, but as a hockey fan this looks like it will be some amazing hockey here.

Trotz has really done wonders for Ovie's 2 way game. That was really the only thing missing from his game. Now he is pretty much double beast mode.

He wasn't snubbed. He missed a month of the season AND the Devils missed the playoffs. If one of those things was different, he would have been nominated.

that's actually part of the argument for him. He was on a bad team that didn't give him any support and he still put up those numbers. Imagine if he was on the Caps, he'd put up HOF numbers. Team like that has the puck in the offensive zone way more than the Devils.

Niemi was tied for 2nd in wins across the league in 2013-14 with 39

His save percentage was .913. Good for T-26th

By that logic should Niemi have been a finalist because his wins were up there if it carries so much weight?

Conversely Quick was 2nd in wins this year with 40 and T-19th in sv pct with .918

Both clear examples of goalies having phenomenal teams in front of them padding their win columns

- hawkeytalkman

Your comparison is not even comparable.... There is a big gap between 19th and 26th. Like I said it is a combination of the the 2. Quick had a fantasic year. You cant compare .918 to .913, it is not even close. You are also ignoring the winning %, Shutouts and GAA

Quick: 1st in GS and GP, 2nd Wins, 11th in Win%, 6th GAA, 5th in SVs , 19th sv%, 3rd SHO

Schnider: 13th in GP and GS, 15th in Wins, 32nd in Win%, 4th in GAA, 16th in SVs 5th in SV% 4th SHO

2013-14 Neimi: 3rd GP and GS, 2nd in Wins, Win% unknown, 18th GAA, 12th SVs, 29th SV%, 16th SHO

By the look at Neimi's stats you can see why he was not in the running for Vezina, he had nothing but Wins.

Quick's year is nowhere close to comparable with Neimi. The fact that is the example you used shows you are grasping at straws. Quick had one of the best overall years, that is why he is a finalist.

I don't get why people where always so fast to judge and hate him. He is one of the most passionate players in the game and that is a very good trait. He can pretty much score at will and he can absolutely run through just about anyone. Not everyone is meant to back check not everyone is meant to dish the puck. People put way to much emphasis on how the entire game played out instead of just the final outcome, if we dumb it down to as simple as we can you don't win by keeping goals out of you're net. It sure helps to but you don't win poop without getting that puck across the goal line and he does that on almost a nightly basis. I also don't know if I have ever really seem him do anything whiney or baby like. Is biggest fault in everyones mind has been he is Russian and doesn't back check but I think I can live with that when you think he is one if not the best forecheckers in the game.
