I'm going to be honest and say I don't watch practically any hockey other than NHL, therefore, my opinions on who we should draft are virtually nonexistent.
can you guys give me your thoughts on guys after the top 3? just a pros and cons type thing. i'm at the point right now where after reading whatever article, i'm like "yup, this is definitely the guy."....until i read the next article. - RealityChecker

I think Dubois and Tkchuck are interchangeable at 4 and 5. I don't like the sounds of Dubois' minor penalty problem though. Con. - boonerbuck
i'm staunchly a BPA person especially in the first round but golfingsince brought up a good point yesterday. if the team was to get 4, 5 or 6, is the talent/projection diffewrence big enough bpa vs positional need? at what pick should they trade down or is that not a consideration?
the conversation will be getting a lot better soon! or maybe we can still discuss bonino (i'm joking bloats) |

Good round on Dubois. Apparently if Canucks get 4OA they will take him and dev as a center(coworker read it but lost link). - Retinalz
Good read. Thanks. Who we pick 4-6 will be interesting, not much to separate hese kids. Wish the draft age was 19 |

Dubois is a little bigger . I am not sure which one is the grittier one. Both have good point production. |

so many things that should have been looked at and/or negotiated into the last cba. i could see how many players (even a majority perhaps) would be in favour of increasing the age. after all, those that vote on the cba are already in the league.
the ncaa "loophole" also should have been closed. |

Disagree on draft age change unless players can move up to the AHL prior to being drafted. I cant imagine the likes of McDavid playing in the OHL last year after putting up the absurd numbers he did in his draft year. Even a guy like Debrincat who isnt a 1st overall prospect, might actually be in the 20-40 range has put up 2 50-goal seasons before being draft eligible at the current rules |

Yup, there is too much uncertainty when attempting to project 17 year olds. Let the kids focus on hockey when they are 16 and not the draft! |

In that case, wouldn't more people go the Auston Mathews route and play professional in Europe if they can't in the NHL or AHL?

you bring up an interesting point that touches upon another issue i.e. vested partners. any changes to the draft age would have ripple effects on jrs and the ncaa.
jrs would benefit from a higher draft age so perhaps allowing kids with 3 years in jr to be eligible for the ahl.
the point is, that there should be a reasonable compromise.
*** i do also acknowledge the other side of my brain that has difficulty limiting an adult's ability to work. i don't like the nfl rule and disliked the court ruling. having said that, i would be in favour of tweaking the nhl eligibility rules. |

Players can sign in the AHL and not be property of the parent NHL club. They are separate leagues and while they have ties and some share the same ownership, it wouldnt change anything since the players are entered into the draft anyways eliminating tampering |

sure. there will definitely be ripple effects. perhaps matthews' route will have a ripple effect by itself.
while there will be drawbacks in any situation, all in all, i would like to see a higher age in the draft.

they'd be free agents just like matthews this year getting approx $400k (according to sportsnet) to play in whatever league they want. |

I dont mind the discussion, I just watch very little CHL hockey since it reminds me of the NBA where a few stars dominate. Even if they dont change the rules, I still want to find a way for top prospects to compete against the best and be challenged. Especially when some are spending 4+ years in Jr's and producing over a PPG, it seems counterproductive for the overall development of the player and the league IMO |

Lefty brought up some good points on this a month or two back. Three years in Jr. then AHL eligible. If a NCAA player doesn't want to sign with drafted team after 4 years then his name goes back in the next draft |

I like this, though I am a little surpised they appear to be out on Cannata and rolling with two rookie goalies in Utica next season (or maybe Gartieg goes to Kalamazoo since Bachman has another year?) |

very true, I think the woman that owed the Erie Otters just unloaded the team after McDavid left with a healthy profit |
