I dont mind the discussion, I just watch very little CHL hockey since it reminds me of the NBA where a few stars dominate. Even if they dont change the rules, I still want to find a way for top prospects to compete against the best and be challenged. Especially when some are spending 4+ years in Jr's and producing over a PPG, it seems counterproductive for the overall development of the player and the league IMO - WhiteLie
Tavares should blame his parents for conceiving him at the wrong time

I like this, though I am a little surpised they appear to be out on Cannata and rolling with two rookie goalies in Utica next season (or maybe Gartieg goes to Kalamazoo since Bachman has another year?) - WhiteLie
Excellent, Jim quietly getting it done.
Start the Miller to Ducks rumors now |

Disagree on draft age change unless players can move up to the AHL prior to being drafted. I cant imagine the likes of McDavid playing in the OHL last year after putting up the absurd numbers he did in his draft year. Even a guy like Debrincat who isnt a 1st overall prospect, might actually be in the 20-40 range has put up 2 50-goal seasons before being draft eligible at the current rules - WhiteLie
They can play in Europe |

Bachman has one more year on his contract.
I assume it will be Bachman/Demko in Utica
Cannata and Garteig in Kalamazoo unless a trade happens. We still have Clay Witt somewhere buried on the depth chart don't we? |

What don't you like about the NFL rule? regarding college play? - DeflatedPucks
to be honest with you, in theory i don't like that a person has to be 20 years old to play in the nfl.
i understand that it is a private enterprise so acknowledge that they are allowed to make up their own rules.
i just think that an adult should be eligible to try for any position (physical or not) and be judged on merit. yes, i understand how lame that sounds.
that's why i'm somewhat conflicted on my opinion re: nhl draft eligibility.
once you're an adult, you should be judged on talent not age etc.
since this is a theoretical discussion, i'm just stating that some of objections are basically theoretical/philosophical in nature. |

Maybe Miller or Bach get pushed out and garteig/bachman back up Markstrom? |

Miller could also get traded at TDL pushing forward one of these kids. Bachman had a decent year in Utica. It will make for a very interesting summer though with Cannata and Bachman. |

that's a very clever way of saying "can we please hope that miller might be traded."

Except I disagree as far as NFL. For NFL players their talent/strength aren't really evident until college. And plus, the level of competition is much better for comparables than high school kids.

some of us set our clocks forward 5 or 10 minutes to make sure that we are always on time (even if we think that we are late).
can someone please set benning's calendar forward by a week at the start of next year please. |

Cannata is a Group VI UFA after this season, so seems like they would walk away and I assume Witt is still around somewhere too |

my thought and your post points it out quite clearly is that the system is set up entirely in favour of the league against the individual, an adult who just wants a job.
i understand both sides and while i acknowledge that these are private corporations that can set up their own rules of employment (subject to discrimination laws), i still have a problem limiting an adult's ability to work.
but as a sports fan..... let's up that age restriction in the nhl. |

IF Benning signs Cagguila, he will have swept the NCAA UFA class for best forward available (Cagguila), Best D-man (Stecher), and Best goalie (Garteig) although some would argue that Alex Lyon (Yale) is on par with Garteig

The one aspect I like about the NFL's draft system is the players declare for it. Rather than deal with these college free agents and the other nonsense around when you have to get your draft picks signed, I wouldnt mind just letting players declare they want to join the NHL and if they are passed up in the draft, they are free agents. The player could be 18, 19, 22 or whatever |

makes sense. put the onus on the player to say whether he wants to be drafted or not. |

If the draft age were 19 they'd probably also raise the max age for major junior hockey, meaning it wouldn't affect players staying as much as we think. Sure, there would probably be a few players that would go overseas for a year but mostly it would eliminate a bunch of 16-17 year olds playing and have them serving time at a lower junior level. |

Could be the biggest steal in years. Even with a healthy Myles Jack and Jaylon Smith he was still a top 5 talent. |

you think high ranked players will play in europe for a year and grab some quick cash like matthews or is it a one off thing?
making chips and pop money in jr vs real money
not saying that there will be many players going but i wonder if some are thinking about it. |
