I kind of doubt Matthews centers #1 next year. It seems more likely he get some semi sheltered minutes with another young star, like maybe Nylander on his wing and let them try and grow and work together.
Its awesome getting Matthews but its crazy to even push Marner out of the spotlight, is there really anything saying he cant turn into the real superstar on this team?? |

That would be heck of a lineup. No team would want to play against the heat-seaking missiles that is the 3rd line. |

What a perfect result. - systemtool
Remember our chat, when I wanted to ensure that they had the 30th spot and you said that finishing 29th would be almost as good odds? I had mentioned that it was 6 years since number 30th had won the draft lottery and it was due? Glad it's over and we can now cement the number 1 centre position going forward. Next hole to fill is a defenseman that is in the hunt for the Norris Trophy. I think with expansion on the horizon, that it might be easier to get a number one goaltender, because of teams not wanting to lose a good prospect for nothing.......party time in the bario!

No one is doubting Marner. This moment is for Auston Matthews. Let's just take that in and reflect on the future of this franchise. Marner, Nylander, Matthews, Riely are cornerstones of this franchise. |

it'll be 2-3 years before the kids make a huge impact, but yes, if they can possibly grabd Stamkos and NOT destroy their cap, that would be nice.
Huge issues will continuously be D & goalie. They'll have to make some trades happen.
I dont wanna fall into the Edmonton trap. Have paper talent up top and AHL lifers for the rest 75% of the team. |

You know who I really feel sorry for tonight?
Those pathetic, small-weiner Chicago Blackhawks fans.
Those franking losers won three Stanley Cups in five years - and those idiots thought they experienced joy.
It's nothing compared to the joy Leafs Nation is feeling tonight.
Meet me on Yonge Street? |

This.
As exciting as this is, there's a real risk of Edmontoning this up. The real focus at the draft this year, beyond Matthews, needs to be D; we need another stellar defenseman somehow. Championship teams usually have 2-3 of these top calibre guys.
Goalie too, though that is probably more solvable via trade/FA than D. |
