It was to a response from an earlier comment.
I simply said that Matthews was 48 hours away from last years draft. I asked where he would have slotted in last year. I think that would have been behind McDavid and Eichel but above Strome.
I then stated previously that Matthews could be similar to the Lindros situation. If Arizona realistically offered their 7th overall along with Strome, Domi and Tinordi. The Leafs could still pick either Nylander or Tkachuk, have a big centre in Strome, have Domi on wing and Tinordi as a huge defence prospect. Add Stamkos and roll three skilled lines for the next 10 years.
Thanks for calling me an idiot for thinking about the team instead of one player. - stevecarpetman
I remember a lot of people saying he would have gone before echl if he was eligible. Those people were sports journalists and whatnot too. |

No not really.
Even last night bobby mac said would have gone third after eichel.
But we'll never know for sure |

Are we still in the market for Stamkos? Marner can move to the wing (he played wing alot this year), but Nylander needs the puck as much as Matthews does, so I can't see either playing on the wing.
Kadri's signed long-term and is a better option at 3C. Bozak on the 4th line, move him at the deadline (this year or next)?
Assuming we sign Vesey:
JVR Nylander Hyman/Brown
Vesey Matthews Marner
Komarov Kadri Soshnikov
Greening Laich/Bozak Michalek

From Garf:
"Eichel flat out dominated the true rookie class of forwards in the NHL."
- Phenom
haha, he knows lots about hockey. He is trolling for comments - but most people just ignore him.
McDavid
Panarin(he is a true rookie. The NHL DOES have age limits on rookie. Its under 25)

Eichel and Domi |

I feel like hes the most realistic option thats available other than maybe trading for an unproven, young goalie. Fucale comes to mind, but no way we trade with montreal like that. Same with Subban in Boston. Matt Murray isn't going anywhere obviously, so it would have to be freddy andersen, but I can see Calgary offering up a lot for him as well. - RileyHaze
Andersen is statistically equal to Reimer. Except he led his team to a 7 game loss in round 1. Oh wait Reimer did that too.
I wouldn't give up anything useful for Andersen. We are in no rush for a goalie as we will suck next year anyways with 6-9 rookies on our team. |

Penguins didn't trade Crosby for a boat load of prospects. Capitals didn't trade Ovechkin for a truck load of prospects. Blackhawks didn't trade Kane for a skyscraper full of prospects.. Do you all see where I am going with this? Give it a (frank)ing rest and I hope they don't trade Matthews for a city full of prospects. Can we just for once take our 1st overall pick, a franchise centre and go from there? Fcuk |

yeah. You should have. 86.5% chance that you win his paycheck... I mean... I can't see you not manning up and taking this bet. Of course the instant you accepted he would've backed out. |

No to Andersen.
Would prefer Demko, Vasilevsky or Pickard
If not available...I am one of the few who has not given up on Ryan Miller |

He thinks Matthews is not at good as Eichel, and only as good as Strome. So the Leafs should trade Matthews to the Yotes for......he's an idiot, that's all you need to know. - Steven_Seagull
That was my point at all.
My point was that Matthews is the oldest player in in years draft. He should be gone last year where I would have arguably gone 3rd behind McDavid a Eichel but ahead of Strome. So if last year he was included in the draft. Would you have taken Domi, Tinordi and either Tkachuk or Nylander to allow them to pick the 3rd overall (Matthews) while you took Strome next? BTW we took Marner too!
Stop with the name calling and widen your views. Don't buy into the hype of the number 1. Do what is best for the team. |

So, assuming the Leafs sign Stamkos and trade Bozak, since everything is going their way right now...
JVR-Stamkos-Marner
Matthews/Nylander-Greening
Soshnikov-Kadri-Komarov
Mikhalek-Laich-Hyman
It's a pretty rookie heavy roster, but with a good mix of impact veterans.
Defense is probably gonna be pretty messy though. |

Kadri took all the tough assignment last year, that will continue this year (especially if no stamkos). The rookies are going to get sheltered a bit next year.

Yeah. Zeitsev should slot in nicely on the 2RD eventually, but we really need that 1RD and goalie.
