I'm thinking what if Zaitsev is as good as advertised and perhaps better? He could become the next Klingberg if he pans out. That puts him in #2 talk and clears things up on the back end a little.

Rielly - Zaitsev
Gardiner - Corrado
Hunwick - Carrick
Marincin

Loov, Percy, Valiev waiting in the wings.....

And that's if they don't acquire anyone else. Not bad.....

- Phenom

Corrado and Hunwick suck. Zaitsev probably won't be as good as your thinking

i guess im not surprised leafs fans already want to trade their shiny new #1 center considering how many people wanted sundin gone when he was in his prime.

this is why we cant have nice things.

They're dinks. He's going nowhere. Locked in.

what did we get for Spaling? Him and Polak was like two 2nds, add that in
- pinksocked

that's right - we did end up getting some value out of spaling which was surprising. Polak probably would've went for a 2nd and a 5th or something. Another 2nd rounder isntead of a 5th is pretty nice value. Especially for spaling

hunwick is ok on a bottom pairing though. I think he'll be bottom pairing and traded at deadline for a late pick

corrado didn't really do much and likely won't amount to anyting but he's still young. training camp will tell all with one of our young D getting a spot.

matthews is probably a 40+ point player next year. he stays
- daeth

He was as good or better than Eichel who put up 56 points... Add in another year of development in a pro hockey league and it's not unlikely that he can't push 60 points.

Honestly, I think Matthews should start in the AHL next year. Especially if we get Stamkos.
Here's why.
1. Leafs said they want to draft and develop: they made Nylander go through the ahl and so should Matthews. Learn the systems and culture.
2. Bozak, lupul, michalek, holland don't have a place on this team and need to be moved ASAP
3. They need to play their older prospects next year to figure out which ones they're keeping.

Start the year
Jvr - Stamkos - Nylander
Soshnikov - Kadri - Hyman
Leivo - Laich - brown
Greening - ??? - leipsic

Playing these prospects will allow us to see who stays and they're old
Enough that we need to make these decisions now. Too many prospects in the pipe behind them.

Did Komarov get Robidas'd?

D Harrington was injured. He could still pan out.

F Kapenen is very young - some ppl count him as close to ready but he is not. He is even healthy scratch for Marlies sometimes in playoffs but only because the depth is insane. I think him and Lindberg take turn getting into games.

And the 25th-30th pick this year.

We won't know what we have until 3 years but we DEFINITELY got rid of a player with no heart. An entitled player with no heart. The team would not have had the same culture this season with him. Kadri and Rielly would not have signed long-term for significant home town discounts.

It wasn't an ideal trade, but it's okay. F__ Kessel.

- Njuice

Kapenen wasn't a healthy scratch. They played 3 games so far, he wasn't ready for game one and played the next 2.

I still think he'll be a player, but he isn't ready yet. I think he's going to be the guy on the Marlies next year.

Panik?

Jesus H Christ If that's our biggest concern, we are doing alright.

- walshyleafsfan

It's not a big deal, just would've rather landed a pick for a player good enough for the Blackhawks than a career minor-leaguer in Morin.

Feel like Kapanen is going to be Kulemin 2.0. Offensive skills won't translate to the NHL, but he can be more of a traditional 3rd liner that chips in occasionally. The traditional 3rd line is more of a 4th line in today's NHL.

*edit: After looking at HockeyDB, maybe that makes him a (Sami) Kapanen 2.0

Zaistev is a very good 24 year old KHL player. So was Artemi Panarin, and he's going to beat out Eichel and McDavid for the Calder. I don't see why we can't have high expectations for Zaitsev.

Yup. Probably lipstick. Maybe bracco. Still got guys like linberg and Colin smith as well.

May have to package some of the guys that are on the cusp (no more waive exemptions ) like leivo and Percy to (a) make room for guys coming, (b) not lose them for nothing if they aren't going to be in the leafs,

Probably. Not a top end offensive scorer, but can make plays when gets the chance but makes smart plays and good defensively and doesn't hurt the team.
