I think he feels the need to be the check against Leaf enthusiasm. I don't know who will be the better player between Eichel and Matthews, but if they're in the same conversation then that's a good thing for Leaf fans. Eichel is and will be an exceptional player. Hopefully Matthews will be as well. - BetterCallSaul
Matthews put up noticeably better numbers at the same age.
At the very minimum he'll be as good as Eichel. |

So it went from being exciting with Stamkos, to being a Clarkson signing. Great work man - weirdoh

I hate Lucic also
But we are going to have a young, and smallish team with no physical presence.
He can score also. I feel like he could maybe help.
The problem is he will be commanding 6+ for 7 years and someone will give it to him. The contract will cause a lot of regret after about 2 years.

Kadri, Carrick, Leipsic, Soshnikov, Komarov are all pretty physical...
im not sure if they'll all be on the team next season but still..
I love having a goon around to kick someones ass who needs it, but as long as they stick together they should be fine. |

A lot of hard miles on that body, gonna break down sooner than most. I agree that he's gonna cost 6-7 years and that's is way to (frank)ing much, and were not eve talking $yet. |

What's with the Tinordi love? He is a punch line, a trivia answer. - corunnakid
Not saying he's a superstar. But he is an ex London knight, drafted 22nd overall, 6'6" tall, shutdown defender. He is young enough to still mature into a 3 - 4 defender. Worst case 5 or 6 big body that can clear the front of the net and Hunter likes him. OEL is pretty much untouchable, which is why I brought him up if the Leafs were to try a deal with the Yotes.
My only point was, if Arizona threw out several top players to try and make a deal we should consider it. That one player is not as good as three or four top 10 picks and might be able to get 5 first round selections because Arizona and the NHL need a marketing tool. Apparently everyone thinks I'm the tool for suggesting it. The Leafs were prepared for losing the lottery and would have been happy with Tkachuk and covet Nylander. I'm a Leaf fan who wants to see cup awarded in my lifetime and this could be the chance to make that happen.
I wasn't trolling just trying to be realistic in what would be offered and what Hunter might have interest in due to his past selections and interviews.
Matthews could turn into
Tkachuk or Nylander
Strome
Domi
Dvorak
And a defenceman not named OEL that Hunter knows and likes.
Almost everyone of those guys have scored over 100 points in junior. None of them is greater than Matthews, nor close but almost everyone is elite, and have shown they can work with other prospects we have in our system.
The name calling is not warranted. I'm a Leaf fan that just thinks that if the Yotes make a mistake and offer the farm, we could listen and maybe benefit from it. If you don't agree or have the view that Matthews is greater than that or we should just take the pick, i understand and appreciate your view without calling you names or ridiculing you.

Hypothetical: do we spend our UFA dollars on Lucic instead of Stamkos? Probably $6.5/5 years would do it.
JVR Matthews Marner
Lucic Nylander Hyman/Brown
Komarov Kadri Soshnikov
Greening Laich Michalek
All of a sudden, we have a forward group that looks like it could survive a physical playoff series. - gravyface
I think you have to go after Stamkos. Ha it stamkos Mathews Kadri down the middle is a winning formula for a Stanley cup winning team. You have 5 top 6 forwards who can play center if you add in Marner and Nylander. |

Stop talking about tinordi. He can't play in this league. For (frank) sakes man he was useless as poop on two of the weakest teams in the league. Why the (frank) would we want him? No skills, slow as (frank), dumb as bricks.
How do you know hunter likes him?
The guy sucks balls and got caught cheating, and still he sucks. Enough of this poop. This management group has made it abundantly clear they aren't idiots, they aren't adding a useless twat to take up space and provide nothing of value. Posting stupid poop like this doesn't bode well for you. |

People like to say the leafs aren't the centre of the hockey universe, but yet they can't stop talking about the leafs. So ironic.
@BNHarrington: If you're gonna say #Leafs didn't tank cuz they played hard, you don't understand it at all. Players & coaches don't tank. GMs & owners do. |

I wouldn't look at Lucic just because of timing. I hate Lucic, but yeah, you'd love a Lucic on your team. But we need our own, younger version of Lucic, not pay his big ticket when a player of his style is apt to break down. |

Well they sort of did tank there in the end with all the Sparks starts but they still had more points than they did last year while only having a 20% chance at picking first. Not exactly the same as finishing with 50ish points in the McJesus draft where you were guaranteed to at least get Eichel by being last.
With that said, suck it, Leafs got Matthews. |
