I disagree...

No Dion, No Mathias, No Holland... The young guys showed they can handle the NHL, and even excel. Roster spots were wasted on junk last season.. Theres too much firepower to not succeed. Vesey and Zaitsev (not a done deal) are both mature players, they wont really have a growing phase.

Goaltending is the kicker.. they need someone other than Bernier.

Yeah, the Jets did nicely for themselves. It's a great result, I'd like to see powerhouse Canadian teams, and takes the pick out of division and conference. Love to see the Jets, Oil and Flames all kicking the piss out of the Canucks.

what an absolute tire fire the canucks are. if the sedin twins weren't joined at the hip they'd be in such great shape but not a single legit contender that would actually be interested in trading 1sts and prospects has the cap room for both. i doubt they'll be bottom 3 again next season and they can't fully bottom out until the sedins are gone.

With McDavid and Laine out west, it's going to be Matthews vs Eichel for the next 10+ years. Could kick start a really fun rivalry.

When they pulled Luongo in that playoff series....imo that was killer...if they were gonna go all-in on the Sedins which makes good sense, why not go all-in with Luongo as well, make him your Brodeur and trade the other great goalie assets to support the Sedins? They remind me of the Quinn/Sundin Leafs....so close but so far

When they pulled Luongo in that playoff series....imo that was killer...if they were gonna go all-in on the Sedins which makes good sense, why not go all-in with Luongo as well, make him your Brodeur and trade the other great goalie assets to support the Sedins? They remind me of the Quinn/Sundin Leafs....so close but so far

Trade JVR and Washingtons 2nd for Arizonas 7th and Rangers 1st (early 20's).
Trade Pittsburgh and Rangers 1st, Leafs 2016 3rd along with Bozak (1M retained) for Avalanches 10th overall.
Trade 10th overall and Sparks to Anaheim for Gibson and 2017 1st.
Draft Matthews and if Juolevi is taken by 6th then trade the 7th to the Devils for one of their sexy defensemen.

I was sort of not Luongo's biggest fan at the time myself. He's one of the rare goalies with better regular season numbers than playoff numbers (at the time anyway). His playoff numbers are still better than most though so I was just being dumb.

It is funny. Leafs could have signed a couple of big UFAs and trade some firsts and seconds to try to make the playoffs. It wouldn't have been 'tanking', just a doomed, stupid strategy.

The exact same people that accuse of tanking were the ones who used to love laughing at Clarkson, Kessel, Phaneuf... and would have laughed their ass off had we traded away draft picks, or signed more UFA's.
