1. First of all the NHL has limits on rookies. < 25yrs, but lets not count Panarin.
2. McDavid finished with 8 points less than Eichel in about half the games.
3. Ghost had a higher PPG, finished with 10 fewer points in 17 less games. Did I mention he plays defense and was instrumental in leading his team to the playoffs.
4. Domi had 4 fewer points and didn't even post an embarrassing -16 like Eichel, still I'd vote Eichel for Calder over Domi but its close.
5. Larkin was 1 goal short and 11 pts short of Eichel. I'd take Eichel over him.

Realistically Eichel was the 4th best rookie and the 3rd best rookie if you don't count Panarin.

1. CHL plays more games, but against kids. Heavier schedule, lighter opposition.
2. NCAA...really? Eichel played 40 regular season games. Matthews played 36 games but his league actually plays 50 games(he was injured). Swiss league has older and better players than NCAA. To even pretend a 40 game schedule against 18-23 year olds compares to a 50 game schedule against professionals is absurd.

As for your lottery conspiracy it makes no sense. Everything is above board. There are 30 owners who would ensure this.

I think he's friends from Eklund because he's been here from the beginning. The worst part is he refuses to form proper sentences. Regularly has typos and even worse just uses the wrong words.

I for one look forward to Garfs entries with excitement and anticipation. I think he's more here for us Leaf fans than the Sabres faithful. If I was a Fluffnblow fan.... After reading a classy blog from Pachla this Garth crap is hard to take. Fixed lottery? In love with Tim Murray? Eichel is great but holy cow. Crosby lottery fixed? Jesus!

Agreed that Matthews is "certainly not Eichel". Eichel isn't a bad player, but we've already got a few of his caliber, and he's certainly not the kinda guy you're hoping for after finishing dead last.

Though, even if Matthews only tops out as an Eichel-like player, at least we didn't have to watch two historically bad rosters, built entirely for the purpose of getting someone else, to get him.
