I look forward to the coming days when everyone gets tired and bored and stops talking about trading Tanev.
I have not watched a minute of Round 2. It's just too nice outside. |

On a team with an overall terrible defence, you trade your best all round defenceman, a proven top pairing defender, for a chance at the rights to an 18 year old kid who may or may not become an NHL player in 2-3 years? - YeOldTimer
how is he a proven top pairing defender? a 1st round exit to calgary and 28th place finish over the last 2 years in his occupancy of being a top pairing defense man is certainly not a glowing reference to his top pairing title.
I don't consider us a cup contender in the next 2 or 3 years, so YES, I do consider trading Tanev (who was free) for a chance at a really good Dman 1st round prospect. |

I would keep tanev but deal edler. Edler is older and wont be on the team the next time we make the playoffs |

Not opposed to this either really. 1st round pick for either player is good IMO. I don't see a cup in the next 2 or 3 years for this team. |

You're talking Chris Tanev right? You mentioned 'best' and I wanted to make sure we are talking about the same person.

Tanev is, at best, a top 4 d-man. I feel the same with Edler. Neither is a proven top pairing d-man and getting a 1st for either would be a insane return IMO |

There is not one player on the canucks that I would consider untouchable. If the deal is right you gotta do it. |

All this talk of trading Tanev.
He is solid, dependable and could be one of those guys who plays for years improving each year. He has no major flaws and wants to be here. His contract is good.
So stop wanting a trade for a trade's sake.
Tanev stays.
(Of course, I think I may have said that about Bieska at one point too....)
I just see no valid argument to trade him for a prospect who will take a few years just to get to Tanev's level with the 'hope' that he surpasses Tanev when we have a guy here already.... give Tanev a chance to take the next step.
No one is going to become a Pronger until they are 30ish. Anyone can become a Phaneuf at any given second if you screw with them. Stop screwing with Tanev. |

Great ---- another guy I can't spell.
Remember when we had guys named Adams, Brown and Linden. Never draft a player with more than 3 vowels in their name. |

Pretty much said and actually said are 2 different stories. It could all be smoke screens and he has a trade in the works. |

100% true. He could be hyping up the two in hopes that EDM takes one and Juolevi is left up for grabs, who knows. I am really hoping we land Dubois though. Seeing Craig Buttons mock draft with us taking Brown does not sound appealing. Dubois or Juolevi would be my first choice. |

But if he still wants out, than why not? He looks like a better pick then we'll ever get in this draft. |

I agree you only move Tanev in a deal where you know you are getting an upgrade at that position. Moving him to get another first isn't worth it unless we are talking top 5 and we know that isn't happening. |

We want a GM that is honest with us and yet does not show everybody his playbook.
From what little I heard of the interview, JB doesn't think there is a #1 dman in this draft...
we will be rehashing all this daily until draft day. I just hope there are some trades made so the discussion doesn't get entirely stale.
not sure how much the stock of draft eligible players will rise and fall before then either. |
