As far as I'm concerned this is NOT the year to go out and sign a tendy, stop gap or not. I think the writing is on the wall with expansion and with that a list of protected assets. Each team with two "legitimate" starters will need to protect the one they deem their true #1. It allows us to negotiate from a position of relative strength so to speak. I may be in the minority here but re-sign Ramo have he and Ortio ride out the 2016-17 Season and work on a deal for (Anderson, Fluery, et al). If Reimer is willing to sign low and short term, why not but I doubt he'll ask for 6x6...

Our minor league guys get another year to mature and see what we truly have and we deal for a #1 next season and see what plays out.

Oh and no way the Pens trade Murray...

I agree about the goalie, next summer would be the time to make the move if at all depends how sold they are on Gillies.

As for Murray I am not as sold that Pitts wont move him, but chances are they wont unless someone provides them value like Gillies which buys them a couple more years to ride Fleury out.

Not much point in trying. He likes to hide behind "hockey talk" his actual purpose. That being his pleasure of antagonizing people and trying to get them to throw a fit of rage, towards him. I'm pretty sure with every response he strokes himself juuuuust a little bit harder. You won't find any intelligent hockey talk here, just a child looking for attention.

Que Rhonda's come back in 3...2...1...

"Rumours" still get posted and on legitimate sites. I think he's asking for you to show something from a legitimate source of his rumoured asking price.

You can search for it yourself through google, that 6 x 6 wasn't something I came up with. My feeling is he asks for 6 years 4 mill per .. I think the term is what he is going to be looking for.

Nothing to say you can't sign Reimer and then expose him to the expansion draft. Thought I heard NMC's were covered by the Expansion draft as well, so do you have to protect players with an NMC? If not, it opens the door wide to what you can do. You could sign Reimer to a 2 year NMC deal (providing he's willing to sign short term) and not have to protect him while protecting Gillies, or, if you would have to protect him, make a choice and then look to FA/trade after the expansion draft.

Not a big deal IMO to sign a guy now if you are ok with exposing him. If it was trading for Quick or Price or something crazy like that, then, ok, you are making a real commitment of assets. A FA signing that costs you nothing in terms of picks etc, it's actually the best time to do it.

If you sign Reimer and he's a bust, expose him and risk keeping him. If you sign Reimer and he plays out of this world, you make a decision on what you want to do.

Don't forget that there is a minimum of 30 goalies left unprotected, and likely closer to 90, so it's a game of odds of whether or not Gillies would even be selected above guys like Murray/Fleury/Raanta etc.

I think risk is low, sign the guy that gives you a chance to win some meaningful games next year.

Players with No Move Clauses have to be protected Players with No Trades can be exposed.

Fleury has a No Move where he can't be demoted or waived But he also has a No Trade where he has to submit a list of 12 teams he can be traded to .. SO Yes Fleury can be exposed.

One thing to keep in mind is Pitts might just expose Fleury because they have to expose 25% of the cap to expansion ..

I like both. Halak would be a good stop gap for us. I,d love Hamonic but here's the thing, we already have 3 solid (2 young) guys to protect in Gio, Brodie and Hamilton. Adding Hamonic would mean we would have to expose 1 of the 4 and we would undoubtedly lose 1.

Reimer may be a good option in terms of not giving up assets to get him.

But buyer beware, he is not and never will be a star, just a solid goalie who gives up the odd stinker .

Super attitude, good team guy, very positive, works hard and competes hard.

But if you believe you need a star in net to win, he is not your guy.

- Rang

You will get a completely different answer from Sharks fans, Calgary. We have seen what he is capable of when he doesnt have the Leafs in front of him. He is very solid and would easily be signed to an extension if we didnt have Jonsey, he will make his new team happy.

I don't care enough. I read it before but I believe it was only on here. So I couldn't say wether it's true or not. I was only responding to what the other guy seemed to be asking. Although, I'm pretty sure I heard Reimer shoot down that Reimer on TSN so that would likely confirm the prior.

I think he'd be happy with a 4 yr. term. I'm not sure that would be good for CGY but depending on the AAV, I think they could make it work. 4 X $4mil allows Gillies at least 1 full year in the AHL, 1 as a back up and 1 to take the job.

The other glitch is Ortio. He'd have next year to take the starter job thus exposing Reimer. Otherwise, he'd be exposed and depending on how he played, he could be snagged as a potential back up. Either way, I'm sure it could work in our favour.

Reimer will be a Flame if Bt chooses! At this stage in the rebuild, giving up picks, prospects, or young assets is crazy! Keep the 6th overall and add to the stable!

I think trading for a goalie is a mistake unless its a steal of course. Signing Reimer to a short term deal with siging Ortio sounds alright. If the brass thinks Cap is an immediate threat I think siging Ward to a 1 or 2 year show me deal could be an option. And of course the taking advantage of cap strapped teams are always good. Keumper looks pretty good and Miny has Dubs long term.

Now hold on, I only suggested Ramo because him and Reimer and virtually a wash and Ramo's contract demands aren't going to be anywhere near Reimers.

So if Reimer happily denied the report does that make a difference? Do you think some reporter (Damien Cox) just made up the 6 x 6 thing?

Neuvirth
Ortio
Gillies

Sounds great to me. Neuvirth is a solid, cheap goalie and his injury history means more of a shot for Orts/Gillies.

4x4 for Reimer would be fine too.

Best option for the Flames is to go with Ramo and Ortio and fix the defence. There's not a goalie available that can save the Flames if they can't figure out how to play in their own end.

Not just the d but the whole system needs some work! If the Flames don't figure out the pp and pk then they will have a good shot at a lottery pick next year!

I think Fleury could be a decent option for next 3 years while we wait for Gillies to become our starter. He's got a year in the AHL (at least) & a year as back up. So the 3 years of Fleury can be handled. Return would be an issue. If you want the cap space of $5.75 mill moved, you need to take something from us. Prefer it's Wideman or maybe Stajan (2 years left at 3.1mill) & then I can see us adding a 2nd & a prospect. Murray looks like the real deal.
- Kevin R

I'd be okay with adding MAF as long as he was dirt cheap. Maybe something like Colborne (if he priced himself out of Calgary) and a mid round pick...wouldn't want to offer too much more than that though so I don't know if the Pens would bite on that or not.

Edit:

I'd offer Reimer a 3 x 4.5, if he doesn't take that then I'd look to the trade market.

Both the PP and Pk were above league average towards the end of the season so at least they showed signs of improvement...

With Backlund and Frolik on the Pk and guys like Gio, Brodie, Hamilton, JG & co on the PP I think last year will turn out to be an anomaly...or at least I hope so

The truth about Reimer is that he is a capable starting goalie, not anywhere close to elite, but is fantastic when it matters most. He is the only reason the leafs made the playoffs in the past decade. I'm dating myself here, but he is alot like a former Flames goalie, Mike Vernon. Will never post top notch numbers, but comes up with the save when it's most important. With the Flames defense, and a forward corp committed to 200 foot hockey, you'll be back in the playoffs next year. When your young players develop, we'll see you in the cup final in 2019. THAT'S the real James Reimer.

INSTANT Upgrade are you high? Reimer is exactly what Ramo is .. you are clueless there is no use in arguing with someone who Believes Reimer is anything more then a backup.

- DinoRondelly

what a tool
that link literally just proves you wrong
the top article is dismissing a rumor, so you essentially you're using your "proof" as a rumor that has already been flatly denied? Then you claim that we're asking for absolute facts on a rumor site? lol No we're just saying those numbers don't make sense and likely way off, in fact already shot down as INCORRECT and that is indeed a FACT

Regardless, I wouldn't be that surprised if he made an outlandish contract demand just to get out of that hell hole that is Toronto
