I am surprised that no one is talking about when Pratt asked Benning how many free agents are they targeting. Benning said if it's a really big one then just one, if it is a mid range signing 2 or 3 |

With 15.25m off the books next year then 10.5m then 14m the years after thats a to. Of cap space. I don't see any current Canucks getting big money in that time as in 7m+ unless somebody turns into a bonafide star.
Go for broke n get Stamkos say 10-11m/7yrs |

Dubois and Johansen with the first 2 picks would be amazing. - A_SteamingLombardi
Im hoping for any combo of:
1. Tkachuk/Dubois/Brown
2. Johanson/Stanley/Clague
3. Day/Greenway/Dineen
I dont know much about the 2nd and 3rd rounders but at least this starts to address some needs. |

I dont think stamkos is getting this team to where it needs to be. Have another rough season and continue to stock pile high picks. Then with all the cash coming off the books look to add next summer. Teams will be giving away players with expansion potentially could sign jamie benn or hedman. |

Doesn't work if we cannot protect them all.
It would be better to have quality over quantity.
Not making a serious play for Stamkos?
Who is as good or will there ever be another opportunity for a UFA star again? |

Jacob Chychrum is the best player available at #5 if there. He won't start the season and may take 2 years to fill out, but he'll be there for the next 10 years after that. Tkachuck or DuBois will still be there as Edmonton should take Chychrum as he fits what they need long term. Edmonton could trade it out too for a NHL ready D-man and Vancouver gets some good sloppy seconds to pick from. Trading up to #3 might be more costly than Laine or Puljuvari are worth. |

I would go for it. Its a lot to spend and its putting a lot of faith in JB to draft and develop well from the middle of each round, but the Canucks have room. If you're taking expansion into consideration, that should also have an impact on HRR and the cap. The expansion fee wont be in play, but the general excitement and first year revenues from ticket sales and merchandise will likely cause a large bump in the revenues that do affect the cap (particularly if Quebec is involved), so your $10-$12 cap hit on $70m gets watered down in a few years |

They couldn't hold on to Johansen or Nash. I don't see Puljujarvi lasting either |

I don't think there is any way benn or hedman hit the market. They are both franchise players and cornerstones of their respective rosters |

It does work if we deal a couple players we would need to protect. By signing stamkos your wasting 10 mil of the cap and with his health issues to me is not worth it. I want no part of stamkos at his price range, he wants more than toews/kane. I would prefer the two players I named instead, they may not be there but there is always a chance. I say continue to build through the draft and once we have a load of prospects(Jets) then add the few missing parts. |

Blowing off Stamkos so lightly is folly.
Tantamount to never trying signing a star that rarely hits the market is bad for biz. Doesn't matter if we r a cup contender or not if he would sign. |

I hope the bolts sign stamkos so it increases the chances of hedman but i agree with you. My main point is that adding stamkos still doesnt get us near a cup so keep on drafting high and when the parts start to turn us around then add in the filler. There is no quick fix, the leafs tried that for years and it just prolonged the process. |

I'd make an offer for Stamkos, because he's good, young and a UFA.
I don't think he will sign here though.
I like your point about the expansion factor changing things up and likely causing a lot more trade action around that time. |
