Grats to Ghost!
Keep up the performance next season, help teach the upcoming batch of rookies what it takes to get it done in the NHL, and good things will happen. |

I wish Larkin or Eichel were one of the other finalists instead of Panarin and/or McDavid. If one of those two won it id say oh well but being 25 playing with Kane and missing majority of season due to injury does not surpass a rookie dman elevating his teams' play for playoff push / season turnaround imho and is frustrating to see a Calder worthy rookie such as Ghost not get what he normally would get if it weren't such a stacked rookie class. Regardless, can only go up from here w Ghost and man is he cool and collected with his words to reporters. Sounds like he's been in the league for years. - arichardson22
Ghost is 23, so they're both "old" for rookies. McDavid being 19 is impressive, but even though the team as a whole stinks, Edmonton has a boatload of talent in the lineup for him to play with. |

Yeah, but all of that talent (specifically Eberle and Pouliot) were night-and-day production-wise depending on his health. |

Darth Vader cuts off Luke's hand, tells him he's his father, then Luke falls down a really long water slide. Luke uses the force to tell Leia he's at the bottom of the water slide, and Yoda is green. |

No doubt. As people have been saying for a while now, Ghost had the most impact of the 3 and was a huge contributor in turning a tee time team into a playoff team. |

I think Ghost could win it with a lot of 2nd place votes, where Panarin and McDavid may be 1 or 3 on a lot of ballots. Could be a weird vote this year - eayost
I can definitely see this happening. Do you go with Panarin for total point or McD for PPG. Ghost will probably get voted 1st or 2nd mostly whereas the other two will probably go 1 or 3. Should be a close vote. |

Or the fact that he put up more than a point per game on an absolutely horrible Edmonton team and that his linemates production went from great to terrible and back to great in sync with his injury. On a game-by-game basis, when healthy, he was the best rookie this year, but can understand if people think he missed too much time. - jmatchett383
That's kind of why I said what I did. I don't think McDavid deserves it based on missing so much time. 1/2 season (McDavid) just shouldn't be a big enough sample to win the award. 3/4 (Ghost) is about the least really that should be considered. |

It's when you really need to poop but you're in the car with no rest stop around, so you start considering pooping in the plastic bag in the back seat. |

I agree, 45 games played just isn't enough games played. You'd never see a player win the Hart or Norris Trophy, while only playing 45 games.

Re: Ghost and the Calder
I believe that Ghost deserves to win the award. First off, it's much harder to break into the league as a rookie on D than it is to break in as a forward. Secondly, he had a major impact on his team and was as instrumental as anyone in getting the Flyers into the playoffs. OTOH, while McD played very well, the Oilers were still one of the worst teams in the league and while Panarin had a great season, he is 24, has much more pro experience than the other finalists and was blessed to play on a very good team with Patrick Kane as a linemate.
When you factor everything in, and look at it all objectively, I believe the Calder should go to Ghost.

If all goes as planned we will be saying the same thing about Provorov soon.
How amazing would that be. |
