I actually like the way the books and the series have diverged. It keeps both interesting. - BiggE

Nonsense. When I watch a movie/TV series of an adaptation, I expect them to be 100% in-sync, word-for-word, scene for scene, no matter how much sense it would make time-wise for it to happen.
I mean, they could have done Book 2 in eight, maybe 9 seasons, and done it just like it was in the book. |

It doesnt have to be verbatim but there have been some pretty substantial changes between show and book.

Yep. Which is wjhy, in the opening credits, it says, "Based on 'A Song of Ice and Fire' by George R R Martin'." They're based on them, not a verbatim adaptation. |

I think they could do the Dark Tower in about 17,000 hours or so.
Seriously, a 28-part Silmarilion would be interesting. |

Anyone watch WWE Payback over the weekend and see Enzo get knocked out..
It's easy to forget that even with "sports entertainment" being scripted injuries are a huge part of it.

Ghost is 23, so they're both "old" for rookies. McDavid being 19 is impressive, but even though the team as a whole stinks, Edmonton has a boatload of talent in the lineup for him to play with. - wolfhounds
to me its not about the age but where they played. Ghost came from college (aka amateur) and played 7 pro games his rookie year and handful of AHL games before being called up. Panarin played yrs of pro hockey in Russia. to me that is different. |

Re: Ghost and the Calder
I believe that Ghost deserves to win the award. First off, it's much harder to break into the league as a rookie on D than it is to break in as a forward. Secondly, he had a major impact on his team and was as instrumental as anyone in getting the Flyers into the playoffs. OTOH, while McD played very well, the Oilers were still one of the worst teams in the league and while Panarin had a great season, he is 24, has much more pro experience than the other finalists and was blessed to play on a very good team with Patrick Kane as a linemate.
When you factor everything in, and look at it all objectively, I believe the Calder should go to Ghost. - BiggE
all things considered, i agree. (frank) those other guys. but he won't win. because flyers.

so the whole rookie of the year thing...that is made up as an award because it is the person who plays the best as a rookie, which is notable because they "aren't supposed to be" as good as a veteran or someone with some experience. Similar to what you're saying where Panarin learned from playing pro hockey in Russia and is more seasoned, which makes his competence at the NHL level less outstanding, if you will.
Wouldn't that same logic sort of be applied in reverse for McDavid? Not only did he play in junior hockey last year, but he also missed time and was less seasoned and accustomed to life in the NHL. He was the best rookie when he was playing, but the whole theory of being a rookie should suggest that less games makes what he did even harder and more impressive.
To use an IRL analogy...if two nurses start their job at the same time and one goes on maternity leave halfway through the year. If they are on the same level once she returns from leave, isn't it more impressive? |

Meh, I don't hold that against him. As a whole, the AHL is a better league than the K. If Panarin was a NA kid that played hrs and spent a few years in the A, people would be raving about him.
He accomplished what he did on his own merits and he deserves the trophy |

With everyone talking about upgrading the wings with skill would David Perron interest anyone? he played well in Anaheim after the trade and is 27. Can play both LW and RW.
Also with Anaheim looking to make some changes with another game 7 loss I wonder if Jakob Silfverberg would be available. Could something like Laughton and Read. Silfverberg is 6'1'', plays both LW and RW, kills penalties.
If Caggulia does sig with Philadelphia does that make someone like Laughton available to try and move and reshape the roster as it seems Caggulia could slide into a 3rd line role? |
