Opinions aside on their value, what are the chances that these players will be here opening night next year?

Girgs
Pysyk
Legwand

- Slump Buster

I am not familiar with this player

I'd rather just draft the defenseman. I'm cool with trading the 8th and a few of our players for a defenseman too but I don't want to give it to Boston or Carolina for more picks. That's just me.

My question is are we overvaluing Lindholm or Fowler? Would 8th overall be enough for Lindholm? I didn't think so at first but maybe? We'll never know the answer to this I'm just thinking out loud that maybe we're willing to overpay. Or maybe that's not enough. Honestly haven't watched enough Anaheim games to know.

IMO Chychrun won't be there at 8.

Juolevi, Sergachyov, and Bean are 2-3 years away.

They need a now defenseman.

I heard they gave legwand a 1 year offer

I wasn't too thrilled when we got him but he did exactly what he should have done. Played great on the penalty kill, helped the kids, and earned his stay. I'd gladly take him for another year. Even throw him the same money as he had before. He does this year what he did last year and it'd be a big help for a playoff push.

Anything more than 1.1 or 1.2 is too much.

so if they sign one or 2 of the college free agents, and stamkos

which players get their ass shipped out?

I still say I'd be good with running with the same defense we had this year. We were middle of the pack. Lower middle but we didn't lose games because we had a super porous defense. I'd take Juolevi and have a cheap player when we really need to worry about cap.

That being said, I agree an upgrade on defense is needed soon. We were lower middle of the pack. It does need to improve, but I'd be more apt to improving the offense first. If we can get a top 4 guy to play with Risto and just eat some minutes whose name isn't Gorges then I think we'll be better. Can we do that and keep the 8th pick?

Not unless #23 is used which IMO would be a huge mistake.

or

6.5 for 6 years for Yandle

If you're trading pysyk that's fine but until then I have to pencil him in because I don't know what you get for him. Point being he's a 3rd pairing defenseman so he doesn't make or break the roster.

Just a random thought.

Trade #8 (add in a 3rd if needed) to Boston for 14 and 23ish

or

Trade #8 (add in a 3rd if needed) to Carolina for 13 and 21ish

Use 13 or 14 along with the boatload of other picks to get a LHD.

Figure out how to draft Sean Day in the late 2nd.

- dadeadhead

IMO, you can get more for 8. Top 10 pick in a "deep" draft.
Seems like it is adding an unneeded extra step.

Then I say run with the team as is and take the pick. I don't trade a top 10 pick for a top 4 guy. A top 2 guy I'll pay that and more. Or do what you said before and try to trade down and use one of those picks I guess. I just hate trading that pick and missing out on a top ten talent even if we have to wait a bit.

Guess there's no one right answer. Hopefully TM is smarter than me

It's about still having a 1st rd pick to go after someone like Max Jones, Tage Thompson, Riley Tufte, Brett Howden, Markus Niemeläinen, or Logan Stanley.

Also finding a way to get Sean Day. He will be the sleeper pick of this draft.

Is Day in the same position as Roy was last year or 2 years ago? From the very little I've heard he's a 2nd round pick. Would he be there at 38 or whatever we have in the 2nd? If not, can you move up with our 2nd and 3rds to get him?

Day went from a 10-15 pick to everything I've seen is the top pick in the 3rd round or later.

IMO he's a lot like Kylington last year and Pulkkinen in 2010.

Both went from clear top 5 picks to injuries plummeting their draft stock.

numbers game

IMO they are at the point where they have to move on from some "player/prospects" if it leads to roster upgrades

only 50 contracts allowed
if they land 1 or 2 ncaa free agents, along with nelson, that takes a hit on how many you can sign

throw in 12 draft picks this year

etc etc

IMO they should take him early in second rd with pick 38?

or have a deal in place where they trade up with other picks to get a pick in low 40's and add him

I'm hoping He has the worst draft combine so he can stay in the 2nd

If not I could see a team being a Richard and take him at 29

I'm also happy Benson, steel had very average years

I had benson going 1 or 2 2 years ago he plays the game exactly like Patrick Marleau if he's there in the second round that's unbelievable

So many late round steals you can get this year in the second round we need to get some more second round picks
