Just a random thought.
Trade #8 (add in a 3rd if needed) to Boston for 14 and 23ish
or
Trade #8 (add in a 3rd if needed) to Carolina for 13 and 21ish
Use 13 or 14 along with the boatload of other picks to get a LHD.
Figure out how to draft Sean Day in the late 2nd. - dadeadhead
This is good in theory but I wonder if a team shipping out a high end D-man would be more interested in quantity (13 or 14 + picks) vs quality (8th + roster player+ prospect). Usually it's the latter. Agreed on Day though. |

Not unless #23 is used which IMO would be a huge mistake.
or
6.5 for 6 years for Yandle - dadeadhead
IMO there is no way he gets that. That's Seabrook money.
5.5-6 tops for 3-4 years. Like Mike Green |

I think it depends on who enters FA with him. If hes basically the only option he might get a large ish overpayment. |

He's already at 5.25.
He's the best d-man on the market.
A team will give him 6+ for 6 years. |

The best, but maybe not the best fit for everyone.
Goligoski, and Hamhuis will get attention too.
I don't think Yandle gets the brinks truck backed up |

This isn't true for every team though. What Yandle brings may not be what teams want, could hurt his value. Especially if someone is available who is better than yandle in those categories |

Demers is another one too, has all the right fancy stats. Maybe Schenn as well. Bet Campbell gets interest too on a short term deal if he goes to UFA. |

Which is what I'm thinking. A team could very well much rather have Hamhuis on a 2-3 year deal. Or even Goligoski.
I personally think Yandle fits here. We need offense and puck movers more than we need a stay at home type |

I personally don't see any of them getting huge deals.
When was the last long term big FA d man deal? Sekera for 5 years at 5.5 mil? I don't see Yandle getting more money and term than him |

See even though this makes sense to me i don't agree with it at all. I think the reason this team had so much trouble scoring is because as a 5 man unit (unless 23 or 90 were on the ice) this team was horrid at zone exits including puck recovery. If you bring in a stay at home guy who can improve this stat especially against the other teams best players it will do wonders for both O and D. Improving the bottom 6 would do them some good as well. |

I'm hoping He has the worst draft combine so he can stay in the 2nd
If not I could see a team being a Richard and take him at 29 - GERBE!!!75PTS
Yea lets draft the guy that had the "$hittiest year possible" and the worst draft combine. Sounds like a real winner |

Unless a team was way too desperate it won't happen. Unfortunately, theres a chance we could be that team. |

Do you really want a soft finesse winger? im just curious why you love him so much. He gets knocked around in juniors and Mike Mcloed sets up the majority of his goals anyways |

I think a puck mover like Yandle helps 10x more than a stay at home defender like Gorges or Luke Schenn don't you? |

Goligoski similar player and is almost a full year older than Yandle. Came in close to the same time together and has almost a 100 less points in almost 100 less games than Yandle.
Hamhuis is a completely different player and is almost 4 full years older than Yandle. Has 50 more point in 200 more career games and has been a mess health wise the past two seasons.
Yandle has played full seasons for the last 7 seasons. |

It's about still having a 1st rd pick to go after someone like Max Jones, Tage Thompson, Riley Tufte, Brett Howden, Markus Niemeläinen, or Logan Stanley.
Also finding a way to get Sean Day. He will be the sleeper pick of this draft. - dadeadhead
Tyson Jost or michael Mcloed could be big time steals imo |

And he only had one really great season in the stat category and is a different player than Yandle.
Yandle is already at 5.25 he'll get at least 6 for 6. |

Than these two? yea absolutely but not if the stay at home guy is an actual top pairing stay at home guy. Yandle to me only really works for this team if you can get Risto to tone down the offensive and become far less aggressive because having two of those on your top pair could wind up being disastrous unless your scoring like the Stars did this year. |

I agree Yandle is the best, but I don't see him as a major FA prize like Suter was. I think it will be a small number of teams trying to get him.
He's obviously going to get good money, I just don't see a team having to make him a top 20 paid defenseman |
