I think Reinhart is proof positive that unless their name is "Eichel", "McDavid", or "Matthews"...not rushing them into the NHL pays dividends - feetontheair22
Reinhart needed to add some size, so it definitely paid off. I don't think the season in Junior did any good development wise, other than get him used to any mass he added. |

numbers game
IMO they are at the point where they have to move on from some "player/prospects" if it leads to roster upgrades
only 50 contracts allowed
if they land 1 or 2 ncaa free agents, along with nelson, that takes a hit on how many you can sign
throw in 12 draft picks this year
etc etc - homiedclown
They'll probably only sign a handful if they even use all 12 picks this first year, some will be Euro players who won't come over right away, so those guys won't sign. Some will be junior/college/USHL players with no hope of making the team for the next few years, so those guys won't sign. If they make all 12 picks I'd say they'd sign maybe 5 or 6 right away, and that might be a high number. With the remainder signing in the next few years, and probably 1 or 2 not signing at all. |

Not really, wasn't his deal front loaded? - Sabresfan-365
Sidney Crosby's new contract will make him the NHL's highest-paid player. At least if you average the first nine years of the deal.
The Pittsburgh Penguins captain officially signed a massive $104.4-million US, 12-year extension on Sunday that is heavily front-loaded.
Crosby will receive $95.4 million of that over the first nine years, including an annual salary of $12 million for three seasons starting in 2013-'14.
With the final three years due to pay just $9 million total, it's the type of contract widely expected to be eliminated in the next collective bargaining agreement.
2013-14 — $12 million
2014-15 — $12 million
2015-16 — $12 million
2016-17 — $10.9 million
2017-18 — $10.9 million
2018-19 — $10 million
2019-20 — $9 million
2020-21 — $9.6 million
2021-22 — $9 million
2022-23 — $3 million
2023-24 — $3 million
2024-25 — $3 million
Crosby received some criticism when the deal was announced on Thursday because it carries the same $8.7-million cap hit as his current deal. That leaves him second on the NHL's list behind Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin and the $9.53 million he earns each year.
However, a closer examination of the contract shows Crosby will earn an average of $10.6 million over the first nine years — taking him until his 35th birthday.
By tacking on three seasons at a much lower salary after that, Crosby lowered the overall cap hit of his deal and left the Penguins well positioned to sign other impact players. The native of Cole Harbour, N.S., wanted to commit to Pittsburgh for the rest of his career while making sure the team will remain a Stanley Cup contender.
"When you're negotiating a contract of this magnitude, as a player it's important to understand what you want and where you want to be," agent Pat Brisson of CAA Sports said earlier this week. "Sidney understood that from Day 1." |

That's one thing I don't miss about buffalo listening to the dumbest sports stations
I still remember years back where they actually had a debate if they would actually trade vanek for Ovechkin This is when everyone thought he was done
And everyone said no to the trade - GERBE!!!75PTS
I remember when Schopp said Brett Favre wasn't a hall of famer, or at least that he didn't know. I'm really hoping he just said that to be provocative. And they know even less about hockey except that Bulldog, rightly, hates the coaches challenge. They really are terrible, yet they're the only game in town. |

In terms of Matthews, Laine, and puljujarvi, the only aspect that Laine excels over the other two is goal scoring.
I truly feel out of all 3 of them, puljujarvi will have the best career of them. All around solid game, and is probably the fastest out of the 3. - Mentalorgasm5
Oh, is that all? Isn't that the only reason everybody and their mother wants our favorite "6 letter" guy? Ovechkin pretty much sucks at everything other than hitting guys, scoring goals, and he's pretty fast when he wants to be. |

Perhaps read the full paragraph rather than bolding one section? It's the only aspect he excels more than the two. The other two can score too, and appear all around better in all other areas of their game.
So yes really. |

Now we're looking at paying him a Myers type deal of more - GERBE!!!75PTS
Reilly got 5 per, I see Risto coming in at 5.25. In 3 years that's a bargain. |

Laine only had 8 more points then Puluarvi. Both can score at a high rate. Laine can be the next Ovi or he's the next Vanek there is no in between. Where as Puliuarvi when he's not scoring can help you in other areas of the game. Laine is Stamkos, Puliuarvi is more of a Corey Perry |

Oh, I read it, but when you say "all a guy does better than the others is score goals" it's pretty hard to take you seriously. Considering that's how you win in the NHL. Unless you have world class defense/goaltending. But ask Lundqvist and the Rangers how that's helped them.
I just think you're behind the times. Before this season it was Matthews, Puljujarvi, and then Laine, but Sean Day was top ten too. But after this season, Day is off the chart, and Laine is ahead of Puljuljarvi on every board I've seen including the gold standard NHL Central Scouting. Laine, and Matthews were also guests on the lottery show and Puljujarvi wasn't. |

Lol
Yes I'm behind the times because i prefer the two guys who might only net 5-7 less goals a year than laine, and do everything everything else better than laine.
Go read up on mock drafts and form your opinions, I'll keep watching the players play. |

Wow, you must have a ton of time on your hands and watch hockey on a loop to know all these players and all their strengths and weaknesses, and watching broadcast hockey doesn't show you Richard in terms of a players contribution when you only see a third of the ice at a time you tend to miss a lot. So you get the scouting feeds too right? Where does one even get a Liiga subscription? And also the Swiss National League? Give me a break.

Arizona Coyotes to name John Chayka, 26, new general manager
The Arizona Coyotes are expected to name 26-year-old John Chayka the team's new general manager on Thursday at a news conference, multiple sources told ESPN.com.
Chayka will replace Don Maloney, who was fired in April, and will be the youngest general manager in NHL history.
The team, according to a source, will also announce plans for a restructured front office that will include more say in player personnel for head coach Dave Tippett.
Chayka was hired by Arizona last year as an assistant GM in charge of analytics. He is a co-founder of the analytics firm Stathletes, a company that has since grown to more than 50 employees. |
