He was never Plan A.

Plan A all along was number one LHD. Then a top winger to pair with Eichel and Reinhart. Stamkos doesn't fit any of those categories.

Wrong, Stamkos is their top priority and was very close to being a Sabre at last years draft but Murray backed out.

Please tell me it wasn't for the 2. The fans would have lit the town on fire.

It was for the number 2, you wouldn't get him for less.

I'll gladly wait a year and give no compensation or a 3rd if they deem necessary to negotiate after the draft.

Then there's this:

Greg Brady ‏@gbradyradio May 1

Stamkos may be more into Sabres than they are to him, even w/ Buffalo talking about acquiring him for the Eichel pick a year ago...

Oh, no doubt. I just wouldn't make that trade for a variety of reasons. Thankfully TM (or someone above him) came to his senses.

Looks like this guy is a Detroit/Canadian radio guy? That's a very fascinating take.

If GMTM passes on Stamkos for the Eichel pick, and then acquires Stamkos as FA one year later, with net result that Sabres acquire both Eichel and Stamkos, then it's hard to continue any of the beady eyed douche criticism.

I doubt he gives up a pick for his rights either but I could be wrong, they want him there is no doubt about it.

Way I see it, Stamkos' agent will be talking to Murray and others with high interest (indirectly of course) and I think it's safe to assume that come the draft, the GMs will know where Stamkos stands as far as preference.. if his mind is up about Buffalo, 100% sure thing E10, you can probably expect a trade will not happen. If Stam wants to take a look around but has reasonably high interest in Buffalo and TM definitely wants him and think he can have him at their necessary cap amount, I'm thinking his rights will be traded.

Just the way I see it. I'd love to sit down with any hockey GM and talk to them about how that works and what situations deserve compensations.

this

they will get a left handed d, don't worry about that, but stamkos is the focal point for this off season, with 2 or 3 other guys up front and a d man or 2

plus the college free agents

busy off season

I don't see any way that this draft falls that we don't end up with one of...

Chychrun - Juolevi - Sergachyov on D.

I think Chychrun is the best in the group but that PHX takes him and I think that we take Juolevi over Sergachyov because of the Russian factor honestly. Bean is too small IMO to be in the group.

Chychrun and Juolevi both have the offensive side of the puck as a PLUS for them. I need to do more research on their defensive mentality. I like the guy that can lay the body just as well. Chychrun is bigger so I'd assume he uses it better.

Sergachev is actually the most physical of the 3

I really don't hope we go over 9.5 for Stamkos. Anything more than that I'd tell him to take a walk.
